Mr. PJ Wesley

PJ Wesley was born on December 15, 1923 to the union of Andre Wesley and Marcella Owens Wesley in Sparkman, Arkansas. His mother passed at an early age. During his mother's illness, PJ became the family cook while his brothers worked the fields. His brother YC helped cook too, sometimes. He and his brothers walked to school every day, and the bus always rode past them. He said that by the time they got there the school day was over. We had many laughs about that. PJ was united in holy matrimony to Eara Lee Dedmon in 1945. To their union seven children were born. He was the father of ten children total. PJ moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan for awhile and worked on the railroad. After he relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1953, he united with Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church. PJ had various jobs in Milwaukee until he finally got the one job he loved: working as a butcher at Dick's Food Store. He met many people there over the years who he grew to love. PJ worked at Dick's until his retirement. Later on, he moved back to Arkansas to farm. He said the doctor was too far away there, so he better get back to Milwaukee; but he continued to farm here. He had a big garden in his yard. His favorite pastime was hanging out at the garage with his buddies, and he loved going to the dog track. He was also a great cook and he even bragged about it. PJ Wesley departed this life on March 4, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, eleven brothers, one sister, three children and so many special friends. He leaves to cherish his memory: seven children, Louis (Tab) Wesley, Mickey Wesley, Ronald (Lakisha) Wesley, Bradford "Tiny" (Rose) Johnson, LaBryant "Nunu" Johnson, Doris Wesley Davis and Ann Wesley (Paul) Fair, all of Milwaukee, WI; special grandson, Gregory Wesley of Milwaukee, WI, who was with him until the end; 27 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; seven sisters-in-law, Daisy, Mary, Johnnie Mae and Freddie Jean, all of Kansas City, MO; Dorothy, Lisa (Edgar) Russell and Willie Mae Wesley, all of Milwaukee , WI; special friend, Sheila McGill, who he loved as a daughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
