Mr. Will J. Evans Sr.

Will Johnson Evans Sr. was born on February 12, 1938, to the late Thomas "Folks" and Alice Evans in Brownsville, Tennessee. Will received his formal education at Carver High School in Brownsville. At an early age, his parents instilled in him a sense of faith, hope, and trust in God. As a young man, Will often had conversations with his father about migrating north to seek better opportunities. After he completed his education, he relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Rooted in what had been instilled in him from childhood, he was led to join Gospel Lutheran Church where he became a longstanding, devoted member, serving as Head Trustee for many years. After his move to Wisconsin, Will met and married (the late) Brenda Glover of Milwaukee. Their twenty-year union was blessed with five children: Phyllis, Will Jr., Angela, Jeffrey, and Derrick. When their union came to an end, he united in holy matrimony with Lucy Holloway, which blessed him with four bonus children: Melvin, Sherrie, Derrick, and Stanley. Will was a very hardworking man. He worked at Babcock & Wilcox for 20 years, and ultimately retired from S.K. Williams as an Operations Laborer. He took pride in his work and was often celebrated for many accomplishments, one of them being his perfect attendance. Being able to provide for his family was a must, which was the main drive for his strong work ethic. Will was a family man who found great joy in spending time with loved ones. This included many visits from family members who lived out of state and would often come to visit. Will loved to travel and took his children on family trips annually. Keeping the family close was very important to him, as he was a long-standing committee member of the Evans Family Reunion. During his leisure time, he enjoyed being on the water in his boat and he also enjoyed fishing and hunting. After his retirement, he found a love for wine making and grilling for his family as he found joy in just having them around. Will departed this life on Friday, July 28,2023, and was greeted in Heaven by the loved ones that preceded him in death: his parents, Thomas and Alice Evans; his brothers: Alphonia Evans, Glen Evans, and Bobbie Evans; his sisters: Fannie Brown, Emma Morrison, Ernestine Abel, and Bernice Burnett and his son Stanley Holloway . Left to cherish beautiful memories and special moments are his loving wife of 43 years, Lucy Evans of the home; daughters: Phyllis Carter of Atlanta, Georgia, Angela (Mike) Dixon of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Sherrie Holloway of Phoenix, Arizona; sons Will (Barbara) Evans Jr. of Racine, Wisconsin, Melvin (Starlette) Reed, Jeffrey (Nancy) Evans, Derrick Evans Sr., and Derrick Holloway Sr., all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; nineteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Will also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to mourn his passing. He will be deeply missed by all.
