Ms. Alicia E. Bishop

Alicia E. Bishop peacefully entered her heavenly home on Christmas day, December 25, 2024 at age 96. Alicia was the first child born to the union of Rev. William (Bud) Thomas Simpson and Jeanetta (Nettie) Walker Simpson, on April16, 1928, in Danville Kentucky. She was named after her grandmother, Alicia (Allie) Walker. Four other siblings, William, Florence, George and Martha followed to complete this family of seven. Alicia received her early education at Bate School in Danville and later went to Kentucky State College to receive her degree in Business Education. While attending school there she met her future husband, William Bishop who was there on a GI Bill, after his honorable discharge from the Army. He later proposed to Alicia and they were married in Milwaukee (William's home) on October 25,1951. Milwaukee became their home for almost 73 years. Alicia wanted to pursue her major in Business Education and to teach. She began the process towards becoming an educator with Milwaukee Public Schools. The Business Ed. major required at least one year of office experience to become eligible for employment at MPS and to be assigned a teaching position. She applied fora position at the IRS and worked there, and for the Armed forces in the secretarial pool for a few years to meet this requirement. Alicia then applied for and received a teaching position with MPS. Because she was from the South and received her education from a southern state and Black College, she had to prove herself and was required to substitute teach for one year. She was finally assigned to the newly built John Marshall Junior and Senior High School and received her contract in 1962. She taught there for over 26 years before retiring in 1988. Alicia received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at the age of 12 at Bethel Baptist Church in Danville, KY. After marrying William and relocating to Milwaukee she united with Calvary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the Late Melvin J. Battle, in 1951. She was extremely active at Calvary serving on too many ministries to mention here. Her most rewarding spiritual gift was the power of prayer. She was a warring prayer warrior. She was very active at Calvary until she encountered health issues and could no longer attend services. She faithfully prayed and studied the Bible at home. William Bishop, her beloved husband of almost 73 years, went to his heavenly home on August 29, 2024. Parents Rev. William (Bud) Thomas and Mrs. Jeanetta (Nettie) Simpson, ! Siblings George, William Robert, and Florence Simpson and other relatives preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her legacy, daughter, Patrice Bishop-Wise, son, Rev. Dr. Kwasi Kena (aka Rev. Thomas Bishop)(Safiyah Fosua) Grand Rapids, MI, Sister Martha Juniel (Albert, deceased) Houston, TX, grandsons, Christopher Brandon Wise (AZ), Tony Crider (Kristen), Chris Crider(Yvita) (OK), Great grandchildren, Christopher Q. and Chrisette Wise, Eris and Bee Crider,Tyler Brown, Connor Scruggs, countless nieces and nephews and a great host of relatives and precious friends.
