Mr. Alvin Smith

Alvin "Stone" Smith was born on December 31, 1953, to the union of Bernice and Amos Smith in Minter City, Mississippi. Alvin was a genuinely good-hearted person who was employed at Goodwill Industries as a maintenance man for a little over 10 years up until retirement. Alvin was one happy soul that will forever live in our hearts. He enjoyed spending most of his time with family and friends, sitting out front in his car, laughing and joking, while having one of his favorite drinks (we all know what those were!). Alvin enjoyed listening to down-home blues every day. A couple of his favorite artists were JohnnyTaylor and Marvin Gaye. Alvin also enjoyed cooking and had many signature dishes; his # 1 favorite being smothered rabbit (which he told everybody was chicken). He loved trying different things and introduced us to fried ribs. Alvin loved spending time with his grandchildren. Any chance he got, he would call them over to hang out and count change in the middle of the floor before he ended up just giving it to them. If they couldn't get it right, he would have them start over until they could. Alvin was one of the most caring and loving people you would ever meet. If ever needed. he would give the shirt off his back with no questions asked. He had a pure heart of gold. Even though the delivery could be rough sometimes, he meant everything with love. Alvin "Stone" Smith, age 70, departed this life on September 10, 2024, at 6:55 pm. He was preceded in death by his: mother, Bernice Smith; father, Amos Smith; mother-in-law, Emma Miller; father-in-law, George Thompson; sisters, Dorothy Smith and Emma J. Smith; and brothers, Murray (Alice) Smith, Hamp Smith, Douglas Smith, Stanley (Elice) Thompson, and Randy Thompson. He leaves to cherish his memory: daughters, Denise Latania Moore and Stephanie Thompson; sons, Leotha Cook, Michael Cook, and Devin Cook; sisters, Linda (Dell) Smith, Bernice Smith, and Ann Smith; brothers, James Thompson, George (Joann) Miller, Keith Thompson, Mitchell Thompson, and Leroy Thompson Sr.: ex-wife, Susan Thompson; 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and very special friends that loved him dearly.
