Mr. Auguster Carter Jr.

You left us beautiful memories. Your love is still our guide. Although we cannot see you, you're always at our side. Auguster Carter, Jr. was born on January 22, 1942 to the union of Annie Fountain and Auguster Carter in Springhill, Alabama. He accepted Christ at an early age and united at Magnolia Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama. Carter received his formal education at Middleton High School in Middleton, Ohio. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in May 1964, served two terms in Vietnam and received an honorable discharge in 1975 as Sargent Carter. In 1979, he came to Milwaukee, Wl and met the love of his life, Clara Austin. They married on April 24, 1982, and to this union they raised three children. Clara Carter remained a devoted and faithful wife, until God called him home. He was previously married to Betty Carter, and to this union they had five children, Bonita, Barbara, Beverly, Carla and Wendy. In Milwaukee, he joined Monumental Missionary Baptist Church on his Christian experience. He was active in many duties such as the Brotherhood Ministry, cooking, and helping out with baskets for the children on holidays. If the church needed him, he would always make himself available. On September 18, 2016, Monumental Missionary Baptist Church honored Carter with the man of the year award. Carter was employed by Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) for 19 years until his retirement. He also worked with the Milwaukee Juvenile Justice System for wayward boys. Carter loved his family and enjoyed his many friends. His sense of humor and generosity enhanced his personality. Carter loved wearing the finest appareL His suits were coordinated to offset his Stacey Adams shoes and Dobb hats. Carter was a Citizens Band (CB) Radio communicator. His CB name was White Cloud. He was a 33° mason in International Masons and the Order of the Eastern Star. He loved teaching Masonry. With his leadership, he and his brothers won a traveling trophy for 19 consecutive years. Carter was awarded the "Ernest Sowell Distinguished Award for his Outstanding I Leadership and Dedicated Service to Our Fraternal Organization". A Model for all Masons. On Monday, December 26,2016, Carter departed this earthly life. He was preceded in death by his father, Auguster Carter; mother, Annie Lee Fountain; and brother, Willie Andrew Mosley. Carter's free spirit and loving personality will be missed. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Clara Carter; sisters-in-law, Anna Rush and Zeraldine Scruggs of Minnesota; sisters, Johnnie Mabien of Milwaukee, WI and Connie (James) Hopkins of Mobile, AL; daughters, Bonnie (James) Odom, Barbara (Gary) Murray and Wendy (Vonn) Wright, all of Mississippi, Beverly (Jeffrey) Odom of New York, Carla Carter of Virginia, Venita (Charles) Whitelaw, Teresa (Sidney) Jones and Marsha Austin of Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren, Rakesha, (Will) Victoria, Darnell Carter (Sheena Hill), all of Milwaukee, WI, Destiny, Marlon, Martean, Jeffrey; and host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. TO MY LOVING HUSBAND Carter, as I think back on our many years together, I feel so grateful for the wonderful times we've had - times filled with happy memories and special moments.
