Ms. Barbara Jean Goggans Oldham

Barbara Jean Goggans Oldham was born October 26, 1932 to the union of Wesley Goggans and Henrietta Goggans in Milwaukee, WI. Barbara was the youngest of five siblings. Barbara accepted Christ at a young age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Milwaukee, WI. Barbara received her formal education within the Milwaukee Public School System. Barbara attended Ninth Street Elementary School, Roosevelt Junior High School, and graduated from Lincoln Senior High School, class of 1951. Barbara worked at Fields Women’s Boutique in downtown Milwaukee in the early 1960’s. She also spent time as an administrative assistant at Day Care Services for Children until she retired in 1998. After retirement Barbara and her late husband Ken traveled the WORLD! There was no coast too far for the Oldham's. In addition to traveling, Barbara enjoyed crocheting her beautiful afghans, blankets, and countless creations. She took pride in gardening, creating beautiful colorful flowerbeds throughout her yard. Barbara also loved cooking. Later in life Barbara enjoyed listening to audiobooks; vampire stories were her favorite! Barbara’s most favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends. Fun facts about Barbara at age 55 she finally accepted the challenge of driving and obtained her driver’s license! She now could cruise throughout the streets of Brown Deer to Kohl’s Food Store, Stein’s Garden Center, and an occasional detour to the other side of town to visit family. Barbara also got her ears pierced at age 80, which was quite the birthday present to herself. Barbara peacefully departed this life on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at home surrounded by loved ones. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley Goggans, and Henrietta Goggans; brother, Julius Goggans; sisters, Mary Goggans, Evelyn Halyard, Dorothy Thomas, brother-in-law Edward L. Thomas; son, Rodney Harmon; son-in-law, Billy G. Rice; and husband, Kenneth Oldham. Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, her loving daughter Carla Rice; granddaughters; Dana (Stevie) Jones; Shelly Rice; Dabnie Harmon, of Milwaukee, WI; Emili Lowery of Warwickshire, UK; grandson, Alexander (Lillian) Harmon, of Milwaukee, WI. Great-grandchildren; Allen Johnson, Corey Johnson, Alexander Harmon Jr., Amir Harmon, Brielle Carter, Ava Rose Harmon, all of Milwaukee, WI; Lyndon Feride-Lowery, and Emilia Feride-Lowery, of Warwickshire, UK; Sister-in-law; Dorothy Oldham; 2 special friends; Beatrice Traylor; Norma Jean Sims, and a host of other family and friends. Barbara will be dearly missed by those who loved her and the lives she touched.
