Ms. Barbara Jean McCormick

Barbara Jean McCormick was born October 12, 1952, to the union of Robert Lee and Willa Mae English, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was the third oldest of eight siblings. She was the most loving, kind daughter and sister. She was the rock of the family, the glue that held things together. On September 17,1973, Barbara was united in holy matrimony with Alfred Vernon McCormick. They were together until the Lord called her home on August 8, 2020. Barbara accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was united with Evergreen Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. Barbara attended Milwaukee Public Schools and graduated from North Division High School. She also attended Milwaukee Area Technical College, where she studied to be a court stenographer. Barbara wanted a more meaningful career, so she began working for the City of Milwaukee Housing Authority as an office assistance for thirty years. There she made many friends, both residents and co-workers. Barbara maintained many of those friendships outside of work, she enjoyed going fishing, have cook- outs, going to the casino, and gardening. Barbara's kind nature attracted many friends. She loved having parties, family gatherings, and was always a gracious host. She was a great cook and she always cooked an abundance of food so everyone could take a plate home, how generous is that. However, one of her favorite things to do was to go to the casino and beat the odds. Whenever she would win, she would share some of her winnings. Barbara loved music. Her children grew up listening and singing the 70's & 80's music and acquired her love of music. Barbara Jean McCormick departed this life on August 8, 2020, at home with her family by her side. Barbara went peaceful in the loving arms of her husband and daughter by her side. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lee English. Barbara leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Vernon McCormick; children, Michael (Belinda) McCormick, Marlon (Felicia) McCormick, Masika McCormick, and John (Lacretia) Spence; mother, Willa Mae Moore; siblings, Dianna (Michael) Lloyd, Robert English, Sandra Silmon, Jerome English, Daniel English, Della English, and Emil English; aunts, Evelyn Bowers, and Georgia Allen; uncles, Rudolph Bentley, and Eton Bentley; friends, Thelma Jean Bivens, and Ann Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
