Ms. Betty Lou Nash

BETTY LOU was born October 1, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the youngest of eight children, born to the union of George and Georgiana Hampton Thomas. She grew up in a Christian home where her father served as the first pastor of Morgan Park Church of God in Chicago, Illinois. Betty accepted the Lord into her life as her personal savior at the early age of eight. As a young Christian in her father's church, she worked with the youth, sang in the choir, ushered and filled in anywhere she could be of assistance. Betty received her early education from the Chicago Public School System and graduated from John Marshall High School She went on to receive her bachelor's degree from the Chicago Teachers College. Betty was joined in holy matrimony to Flowers Nash Junior on June 27, 1964. To this union were born three children, Cheryl Lynn, Derryl William and Derrick Flowers. Although a dedicated educator, the couple agreed Betty would remain home to raise the children while Flowers provided for the family. During these years, she remained a lifelong learner, studying Swahili, American Sign Language, as well as learning to play the organ. Her entrepreneurial spirit soon led her to earn a broker's license and found Queen Bee Realty. She later expanded her community impact by establishing two successful group homes for individuals with developmental disabilities. Following the example of her mother and father-in-law, Betty and Flowers began a Bible study in their home. As the group flourished, they moved to the Logemann Community Center, where they founded the Mequon Church of God, which became the current Silver Spring Church of God. At Silver Spring, Betty continued her lifelong pursuit of service to Christ through faith and works. She served as a worship leader, Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, choir director, trustee, deaconess, and was the founding president of the SEEDS of Esther Women's Group. Betty was a blessing from God to all who knew her. She loved her family with unconditional love and was always ready and available to assist anyone in any situation. Even through her life-altering illness, Betty placed calls to the sick, discouraged, and bereaved to remind them of the unwavering power of our Heavenly Father. When she was no longer able to place calls to encourage the Saints, she was still singing songs of praise to our Heavenly Father, secure in the knowledge that He is still in control. She lived by the conviction of Psalm 20:7: "Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God." On Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at the blessed age of 85, Betty peacefully transitioned into eternity to be at home with her Lord and Savior. At the time of her departure, she was surrounded by her two loving sons and the prayers of the Saints. For those who knew Sister Nash, she will be remembered as a steadfast woman of God devoted to sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and a thoughtful servant and friend. She never felt obligated to go to church but always saw it as a joyful occasion to be with the Saints. Whether she was singing out the hymns or leaping and dancing in the third row of the sanctuary, she brought the Spirit of God with her wherever she went. Betty was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband, Flowers Nash Junior, her siblings George Thomas Junior, Baby Girl Thomas, Lucille Thompson, La Vergne Thomas, Harold Thomas and Regina Thomas, along with her niece Sequoia Thomas and her three nephews D' Artagnan Thomas, Derrick Thomas and George Thomas III. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving sister Aurazela Majors; children, Derryl (Taryn), Derrick; cousin Rose Ard; niece Janice Sheckles; nephews Tony Nash and Reginald (LaTasha) Thomas; Godchildren and a host of other loving relatives, friends and her Silver Spring Family.
