Mrs. Burbie Lean Lewis

Burbie L. (Joiner) Lewis was born on September 6, 1939 in Batesville, Mississippi to the late Eva Mae and Wesley Joiner. Burbie was the youngest of nine children. Burbie grew up in a religious household and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was an active member of Mount Gillion Baptist Church in Sardis, Mississippi. She acquired her formal education in Batesville, Mississippi. Burbie was united in matrimony with Euclid S. Lewis Jr., in Batesville, Mississippi, on December 28, 1955. Four children were born to this union - Gregory, Preston (deceased), Wanda Denise and Veronica. Burbie and Euclid moved to Milwaukee, WI in 1955 and joined Pilgrim Rest MBC, under the leadership of Reverend, C.V. Harrington. She was an honorary member of the Gospel Choir and served and volunteered in many aspects around the church when needed. Under the leadership of Pastor Martin Childs Jr., Burbie remained a loyal and faithful member until her health began to fail, which made it difficult for her to be present in the congregation. Burbie was a homemaker. She took care of her husband, kids and grand kids, preparing home cooked meals daily and welcomed all who dropped by for a plate. She liked to travel but LOVED to cook and go shopping. She loved her fine clothes and hats. When her health no longer allowed her to go to the shopping centers, she learned how to shop online. On Wednesday, April 8, 2020, Burbie was called to eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Euclid S. Lewis Jr. and son, Preston Lewis. Burbie is survived by three children. She leaves to cherish her memory, Gregory (Jeanette) Lewis of Brookfield, WI; Wanda Denise Lewis-Baldwin and Veronica Lewis of Milwaukee, WI; Three grandchildren, Valencia (Christopher) Cook of Brandon, Florida; Tyler Baldwin and Taylor Baldwin of Milwaukee, WI; Two great-grandsons, Thailin Cook and Aiden Cook of Brandon, Florida. Two sisters, Mary Gatewood of Gary, Indiana and Gertrude Draper of Kansas City, MO. Two brothers-in- law, Larry Gatewood of Gary, Indiana and John Lewis of Milwaukee, WI. Three step-sisters and two step-brothers (Ballentine). Nieces, nephews, cousins, a host of family members, a special friend Helen Person, along with her church family, Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.
