Mrs. Burnell Brooks Sutton

We have come together today at the Father's beckoning for Burnell Marie Brooks Sutton as she enters her eternal heavenly home. She transitioned in quiet dignity on November 23,2016. She was born to this life on June 26, 1921 in Monticello, Arkansas to the late Albert Smith "Buddy" Brooks and Ruby Boswell Brooks. Burnell received her formal elementary and high school education in Monticello, Arkansas. She attended Arkansas Agriculture, Mechanical and Normal (AM&N) college (now University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff, Arkansas). Burnell united in marriage to the late Reverend Olee L. Sutton in 1944. To this union, three children were born, Ruby Marie, Gwendolyn Faye, & Danny Raye, dc. The family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin July 12, 1948. Life changed dramatically for Burnell when Rev. Olee was called to the gospel ministry in 1964. God was so good and merciful to us through all the ups and downs. Burnell was quoted as saying, "We had to take everything in stride, but God had us in his grip:' First Lady Burnell worked tirelessly with her husband, in all areas of the church. When the church doors opened, Lady Burnell was there to greet all who entered with open arms and a beautiful smile. As the saying goes, behind a good man is a good woman. She was always there to support her husband, Rev. Sutton and the church in anyway and all ways that she could. She left her footprint in the Sunday School department, the Gospel Choir, the Mission Society, and the Youth department. Lady Burnell also organized the Food Pantry in 1985, and served as the coordinator for about 12 years. She was also a member of the Minister's Wives, a department of the Wisconsin Baptist State Convention. Prior to Rev. Sutton's retirement, First Lady Burnell acted as the new membership class instructor, which she enjoyed very much. She loved Monumental and the church family and was lovingly referred to as the First Lady of Monumental, and intimately called "Mama" or "Ma:' She is preceded in death by her loving husband Olee L. Sutton, her son Danny Raye Sutton, Sr. and her precious grandson Kevin Eugene Smith. She leaves her legacy of love to her devoted children Ruby Marie Sutton and Gwendolyn Faye Sutton of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, her devoted sister, Paralee Jones (Howard, de), niece, Dr. Patricia Jones Penn, Sacramento, California, nephews, Michael Jones (Peggy), Gregory Jones (Geneva), Vicki Walker, Detroit, Michigan, grandchildren; Chenell Renee Sutton-Harper (Lucius), Danny Raye Sutton, Jr. (Keesha), and Cheryl Williams children of Bobbie Sutton; daughter-in-law Marilyn Sutton, great grand children, Deshona ShavannahRe Sutton, Denee Jewell Harper, Savannah Kay Sutton, Daquan Jones and Jordan Danny Raye Sutton. Great great grandson, Dominic Sutton-Green, her devoted "sisters"- in-law Joanna Sutton (Ozell, de), Atlanta, Georgia and Earlene Sutton (Henry, de) of St. Louis, Missouri, cousin Innadele Crawford (Cliff), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and so many who call her mother at Monumental Missionary Baptist Church
