Mr. Charles E. Smart

On September 11, 1951, there was a loud cry. It was a baby boy. A precious gift was given to his mother, Lue Ada Smart Jarrett, and father, Isaias Frizell. His mother named him Charles Edward Smart. He was destined to become the eldest of six children. Charles, or "Shortman", as he was affectionately called, would prove to be the epitome of his last name, "Smart". He graduated from Durant Attendance Center in Durant. Mississippi. and Holmes Jr. College in Goodman, MS. He continued his education at Mississippi Valley State University. In high school. Charles met the love of his life, Rosemary Crawford, and decided to make her his lifelong partner. They were united in marriage on April 26, 1973, and immediately started their new life together in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Two years later, they welcomed a baby girl. named Tamara Kenvctto (Scoot), and in 1983, Charmita Rena (Punkin) completed their family. Charles was also blessed to have a son, Charles Delmar Evans, who preceded him in death. Shortman was a provider. For 33 years he worked at A.O. Smith as a welder, until his retirement. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed playing softball and shooting pool. He was on avid reader and a fan of the TV game show, Jeopardy; he would shout out all the correct answers to the questions. Two of his greatest joys was grilling during the summer months, and spending time with his family and friends. He could always teach you a lesson about how to grill. On Monday, November 27, as an airplane was flying low above his house, Charles Edward "Shortman" Smart transitioned from this life to eternity. He was preceded in death by his: son, Charles Delmar; parents, Lue Ada and Isaias; grandparents, Thomas and Idell Smart; and two brothers, Nathaniel "Big Bud" Smart and Albert Jarrett. He leaves to cherish his memory: devoted wife of 50 years, Rosemary; daughters, Tamara (James) Smart-Harris and Charnita Smart; seven grandchildren, Shamir Jackson, Shawn Jackson Jr.. Omarri Evans, Shamarreon Evans, Delmar Evans, Amari Taylor, and Artis Taylor; three great-grandchildren, Aiyden, Calvin, and Jamri (Milwaukee, WI); four brothers, McKinley (Flora) Smart (Lancaster, TXJ, Eddie Jarrett Jr.. Spencer Jarrett (Rockford, IL), and Larry Frizell (Waterloo, IA); four sisters, Lisa (Marcus) Smith (Durant, MSJ, Sylvia Burns (Waterloo, IAJ, Loletta Ross (Waterloo, IA), and Jacqueline Frizell (Minneapolis, MN); four sisters-in-love. Jean (Ulysses) Richard and Nora Willis (Chicago, IL). Carolyn (Ronald) Barnes (West Bloomfield, MI), and Kathleen (Roynell) Young (Houston, TX); three maternal aunts, Annie Anthony, Betty Payne, and Sue (Adam) Herron; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
