Mrs. Clarice Rebecca Green

Clarice Rebecca (Reeves) Green was born on January 24, 1924 in Memphis, Tennessee, the second child of three born to the union of Richard and Ruth Reeves. Clarice was baptized as a child and grew up as a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church in Memphis, where she developed the foundation of her faith in Christ. An inquisitive child, she received her elementary education in Memphis and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Excelling academically, Clarice attended Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana, at 16 years old. She attended Dillard for two years and, after returning home, graduated from Lemoyne College in Memphis, Tennessee in 1944 with a Bachelors deegree in Mathematics. While attending Lemoyne, she was inducted into the Beta Tau chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. After graduating, she taught briefly at Campbell College in Jackson, Mississippi. She easily passed an exam to work for the governmeny and received a call to work for the Bureau of Labor and Statistics in Washington D.C. during World War II. After the war ended she returned to Memphis. It wa during this time she caught the eye and heart of Luther Green. They wed in 1946. This union brought them two daughters, Pamela and Antoinette, and lasted unr Lurher's passing in 2008. In 1951, she and her family moved to Milwaukee, where she made sure her children were active, healthy and happy. A devoted wife and mother, Clarice also worked for United Way or Greater Milwaukee as a Statistician and Referral Specialist for the Aged. She retired from United Way after 30 years of service. A woman of faith, Clarice found a spiritual home in Emmaus Evangelical Lutheran Church. She joined Emmaus in 1966 as its first African American member. Clarice served in various capacities at Emmaus, including the Board of Trustees, Board of Education, Board of Social Ministry, Finance Committee Altar Guild, Lector and the Food Pantry. She remained a steadfast and active member until Emmaus closed its doors in 2016. Clarice lived a life of service. She believed in the importance of giving back and helping anyone in need. She was a charter member of the Milwaukee chapters of Jack and Jill and top Ladies of Distinction. These organizations not only allowed her to serve her community, but to interact with youth, which she loved. She inspired her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to become involved in these organizations as well. She remained an active member ofTLOD serving in a variety of different capacities. Clarice joined the Epsilon Kappa Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in 1953. She served as Basileus from 1953-1955, Chairman of the 1982 Cotillion, and was a Graduate Advisor. Throughout her 73 years as a soror, Clarice served on countless committees and rarely missed a meeting, conference, cotillion or Boule. The women of Alpha Kappa Alpha always maintained a special place in her heart. Golden Soror Clarice embodied the spirit of AKA and will be remembered as one of the most prominent women to ever wear the pink and green. In addition to all she did for others, Clarice was the pillar of her family and loved each member with all of her heart. A devout wife, nurturing mother, and loving grandmother/great grandmother/great-great grandmother, there was nothing that she would not and did not do to take care of them. Whether immediate or distant, related by blood or by love, every member of her family could rely on her undying love and support. Clarice was an avid reader who loved to learn and kept abreast of social issues, politics and sports. She loved playing Bridge and cherished the ladies in her Bridge Club that he belonsed to for over 50 years. Her sense of style, sense of humor, wit, and down to earth narure made her irresistible. She left an indelible mark on everyone she met. She was one of a kind. Clarice was taken into God's arms on May 29, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband Luther, her beloved daughter Pamela (Ivy Beyond the Wall), her sister Thelma Driver, her brother Richard Reeves, and her nephew Julian Driver. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Antoinette (Ron) Kelley; grandchildren Kyle (Linda) Biami, Kelly Biami, Kerry Biami, Kwame Green, Timothy Hall, and Luther Hall; great grandchildren NaQuita Biami, Brandon Green, MarQuita Biami, Andree Biami, Kaelon McMillian, Briana Green, KaMaura Biami, Amanda McMillian, Kiera McMillian, MarQuel Biami, and Keely Biami; niece Vita (Terran) Steinhart; 13 great-great grandchildren, and a host of relatives, friends, and sorors. Clarice was an amazing woman who wi11 be greatly remembered and sorely missed.
