Mrs. Darlene Elaine Green

Darlene E. Green was born on July 12, 1958, in Denmark, Tennessee, to the union of Colonial and Pearline Henning. Darlene was the fourth of twelve children, the first daughter. Darlene moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin at an early age. She was baptized and received her spiritual nurturing at Greater Galilee Baptist Church. Darlene later joined New Covenant Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. F. L. Crouther. She was very active and was a member of the Music, Deaconess, Women and Mission Ministries, Church School and the "Ever Readies." Darlene spent endless hours sewing and making props for the various holiday pageants, and her passion for praising God in song led her to become a member of The Harmonique Gospel Choir, where she shared her beautiful voice. She was educated in the Milwaukee Public School System and was a proud 1976 graduate of Riverside High School where she was active in various activities. After graduating high school, she continued to serve on the reunion committee for the class of 1976, and even recently assisted at the registration table at the class reunion in 2018. She was a TIGER for life! She was joined in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Paul Green, Sr., on July 15, 1978. She always acknowledged and was thankful for her relationship, and the love she shared, with her husband. This union of 41 years was blessed with two children and eight grandchildren. Darlene believed in working hard and being a good employee. She worked for The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company for almost 39 years and worked for Kohls Department Store over 20 years. Darlene also believed in giving back. She was a member of the First Aid Service Team with the American Red Cross of Southeastern Wisconsin. Darlene had a sweet and humble spirit. She ruled with a steel hand and a soft heart, which earned her the title "Mean Green" and "Big D". Anyone who knew her, knew she would give you her last, but she demanded and expected respect. If she knew you, she loved you and would be the first to invite you to the many family gatherings she happily hosted. Darlene enjoyed traveling. Her experiences included multiple trips to Disney, cruising with family and friends, as well as road trips all over the country. She especially loved planning family vacations for her family because her grandkids were the joys of her life. Anyone who knew Darlene knew that she loved watching old Westerns. To say she was happy when her granddaughter, Kennedi, became a loyal fan of Westerns would be an understatement. Darlene truly fought a courageous battle, continuing to sing in the choir even when she was in pain. It was early morning Sunday, March 24,2019, with her husband and daughter by her side, our Lord sent an angel to Darlene's bedside to grant her the rest she deserved. She was preceded in death by her parents: Colonial and Pearline Henning; brothers: Contorder and Christopher Henning; and grandparents: Tiller Smith, Joe Patrick, and Curtis and Liza Henning. She leaves to cherish her memories: her devoted and loyal husband, Paul; her children: Paul Green, Jr. (Glenda) and Shaniece (Jonathan) Bates; eight grandchildren: Angelique, Quinton, Jaylen, Jordan, Sir Julien, Kennedi, Paul Ill, and Aidan; nine siblings: Gregory (Ave), Gyrome, Terry (Jennifer), Emily, Christine (Brian, Sr.) Antonion (Brenda), Royna, Vanesser, and Jill (Jerry); best friend: Diane (Lee); three goddaughters and their children: Tamica (Jim), DeAngela (Jose), and Tiffany; two aunts: Lou Callie and Patricia (Clinton); two uncles: James (Emily) and Worthen (Ora); mother-in-love. Ruby Green; brother-in-love, Robert (Mildred); sisters-in-love. Sherry (Rev. Roy) and Tina Henning; special friends: Turner, Karen, Tujuana, Sandra, Jennifer, Delphine and Patti; 28 nieces and nephews; 41 great-nieces and nephews; the New Covenant Baptist Church family; and a host of cousins and friends.
