Mr. Daryl Maurice Evans

Daryl Maurice Evans was born on April 16, 1956 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The 4th son of Will R. and Sadie M. Evans. Daryl received his formal education within the Milwaukee Public School System. He began his military career in 1974 with the United States Army, where he was a personnel clerk, personnel actions specialist small arms instructor, and rifle expert. He served until receiving an honorable discharge in 1977. Daryl later served several years as a United States Air Force Reservist. His strong work ethic continued as an officer with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections and Milwaukee Public Schools. He dedicated years to his job at the Veterans Hospital in Milwaukee and then with the Veterans Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. He returned to Milwaukee where he finally received a medical retirement on April 30, 2018 from the VA Milwaukee Medical Center. Daryl was talented artist and won several awards for his works while in school. He was a faithful member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Milwaukee where he served on the Usher Board. During his brief stay in Canton, Mississippi he attended Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Daryl was most proud to be a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. One of his greatest moments was when he became a grandfather. He would often give the children of the family silly nicknames such as Pork Chop, Ham Hock, Chittlin, Rock, Brick and Skittles. Daryl departed this earthly life on June ll, 2018 at the VA Milwaukee Medical Center after a very valiant two year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will Roy and Sadie Mae Evans, and younger brother, William Keith Evans. Daryl leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 40 years, Doreen Rice Evans; daughter, Dori Evans; son, Darion Evans all of Milwaukee; brothers, Roy (Georgia), Carl (Dollora), and Michael (Emma) of Milwaukee; sister, Sandra Evans Short (Purvis) of Houston, Texas. He leaves three grandchildren, Danielle and Andrew Shorter Jr. and Darion Evans [r., as well as, three great grandchildren; aunts, Emma Strickland of Canton, MS, Mercy Saulter of Rockford, IL, LaVern Maddox of Chicago, IL, Marynell Luckett of Jackson, MS and Alice Riser of Grayson, LA; as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and beloved family friends.
