Mrs. Denise Cullen

Denise Cullen was born on June 2, 1958, in Mobile Alabama, to James and Julia Lewis. Denise received her formal education in the Milwaukee Public School System. She attended Twelfth Street School, Parkman Middle School, and graduated from West Division High School in 1977. In 2008 in Atlanta, Georgia, she graduated from Sanford Brown Institute in Medical Billing and Coding. Denise accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Greater Galilee Baptist Church, Lighthouse Gospel Chapel, and Gospel Lutheran Church. She was a devoted worker in the churches she attended. Some of her duties were usher, assisting with Vacation Bible School and a variety of tasks in the kitchen. She truly enjoyed the preaching and singing at Sunday mornIng services. Denise Lewis was united in holy matrimony to Cy Cullen on November 7, 1981, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Their union was blessed with a son, Anthony Dishawn Cullen. Denise worked for Milwaukee County. Later, she was employed at Blue Cross/Blue Shield until she retired in 2003 and moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Denise enjoyed working with her husband, Cy, with most of his business endeavors. listening to gospel music, reading, interior decorating, gardening, visiting and talking with family and friends. She had an impeccable flair for color and design. Her home was always "laid out." She was talented in coordinating her attire. She took pleasure in finding bargains when she shopped. Denise often said, "I love my life." Denise departed this life to be with Jesus on Sunday, January 19.2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Julia Lewis; her mother and father in-law, Roy and Lorine Cullen, a brother-in-law, Roy Cullen, Jr.; an uncle, Wesley Coleman, and an uncle and aunt, Fred (Annie Mae) Daniels. She leaves to cherish her memory: Her loving and devoted husband, Cy Cullen; son, Anthony Dishawn Cullen; two sisters, Wanda Soward of Brown Deer; Rosalinde Lewis of Milwaukee; one brother, James Maurice Lewis, of Milwaukee; two grandsons, Dishawn Cullen, Jonas Cullen of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Donita Cullen of Atlanta, Georgia; an uncle and aunt Elijah (Irene) Lewis of Thomasville, Alabama; an aunt, Wilhamena Pogue of Detroit, Michigan; three sisters-in-law, Martha Miles, Virginia Cullen, and Ava Cullen; a brother-in-law, Danny Cullen, all of Milwaukee; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
