Mrs. Doris Trisha Hooks

Doris Trisha Simpson was born in Dermott, Arkansas on July 29, 1946 to Henry Simpson and Illinor Penny. She was raised by her beloved "Aunt Sal" and "Uncle Bud" (Sarah and Lucien Bluford) in Milwaukee. Doris attended St. Benedict de Moor grade school, junior high and high school, graduating in 1964. After high school, Doris attended MATC in Milwaukee and also completed college courses at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Doris accepted Christ at an early age and as a student at St. Benedict School, she was also a faithful member at St. Benedict's Church. She later united with St. Elizabeth Catholic Church where she served as usher and Litany reader on a rotating basis. She became a member of Holy Cathedral Church of God in Christ in 2008 where she attended services regularly until her health started to decline. Doris was united in marriage to Robert Hooks, Sr. on May 5, 1973 in Milwaukee, and their union was blessed with five children, whom she loved with all her heart and soul. Doris enjoyed life to the fullest and was diligent and conscientious in all her endeavors. She had a beautiful singing voice and as a young woman she was often asked to join in and sing with groups in and around the neighborhood. She also enjoyed roller-skating, dancing and bowling. As maturity set in Doris' interests turned to cooking, traveling, shopping, movies (more shopping) decorating (more shopping) and spending time her family - after even more shopping ... ! Over the years Doris was employed by Merrill Lynch, Milwaukee Public School System and MATC where she was honored and respected by her co-workers. But her best loved job was being a stay-at-home Mom which she was until her last child started all day kindergarten. Doris departed this life and passed into eternal glory on November 7, 2012. She was preceded in death by Sarah and Lucien Bluford; brothers Terry Joe Penny and Vincent and Gary Simpson; aunts Clarice Johnson McKinney and Adelle McElwee; and her father and mother-in-law R.C. and Annie Hooks. Doris is survived by her parents, Illinor Penny and Henry Simpson and step-mother Shirley Simpson all of whom will cherish her memory. Doris is loved and will be deeply missed by her husband, Robert Sr., her children Robert Jr., Inga Jones and her husband Marvin; Preston; Brandon and his wife, Mary; and Rona Jones and her husband Travis. Doris doted on her grandchildren, Marvin III; Iyanna, Jordan and Jeremiah Jones; Noah and Brandon Hooks Jr.; and Alayah and Alanni Jones, and they will truly miss her presence. Doris was also loved and will be missed by her siblings Kay, Adele and William. In addition, Doris will be fondly remembered by her sisters-in law, Lavenia Anderson, Madis Fitzpatrick and Velma Hooks. And she will also be missed by her special friends Delores Parr, Sharon Parker, Delores Buckner, and Joyce Lewis and Ruby Smith; along with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
