Mrs. Dorothy Ann Laurence

Dorothy Ann Laurence was born Aprill3, 1943 to Eugenia and James Hicks of Little Rock Arkansas. She received her formal education through Milwaukee Public Schools. She loved family gatherings, gardening and online shopping. She also loved watching Three Angels Broadcasting Network (3ABN) and listening to gospel music. At the age of sixteen, she received Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized into Sharon Seventh Day Adventist Church. At a young age Dorothy met Dallas Pottinger, fell in love and to this union 8 children were born. As a family they traveled a lot and attended Camp Meeting in Cassopolis, Michigan. Years later, she met and was united in marriage with Qudeleous Laurence. Qudeleous was known for giving her yellow roses, which became her favorite flower. The marriage between Dorothy and Qudeleous made for a family of 12. Sebrina, the joy and center of their lives became the apple of their eyes. This brought the number of children in the home to l3. Dorothy's love for children did not stop there. She opened her home to numerous girls in the foster care system. Dorothy worked for Milwaukee Public Schools for 40 years, in which the majority of her career was spent in the attendance office at Custer High school.' The children of Milwaukee had a special place in her heart; she was beloved by the children immensely. Regardless of where she went, she would encounter students; and the doors of her home were always open to help those in need. Dorothy was a leader in her neighborhood, and was often found organizing neighborhood activities. After Dorothy became ill, she continued to minister to people from her home even up until the time of her death. On the first Sabbath of every month, for 7 years, she opened the doors of her home to anyone for Sabbath dinner and Bible study. As a result many family members and friends have surrendered their lives to God. Dorothy departed this life on the Sabbath of October 19, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband, Qudeleous Laurence; parents, Eugenia and James Hicks; three sons, George Dallas Pottinger IV (Dikie), Delton Pottinger, and Durand Pottinger; two daughters, Sebrina and Denise Laurence; one grandson, Willie Earl (Nickle) Zollicoffer; and two granddaughters, Crystal Hawthorne and Tiffany Pottinger. She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Debra (Ron) Gay and Donna (Richard) Evans; six sons, Darius (Shawn) Pottinger, Derwin (janice) Pottinger, Dion (joan) Laurence, Jacques Laurence, Pierre Laurence and Franchot (Pam) Laurence; two daughters-in-law, Anita Pottinger and Pat Laurence; 32 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren, 4 sisters, 3 brothers and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Special thanks to her big sisters, Joyce Zollicoffer and Bobbie Lathan for supporting her through the most difficult time of her life up until the end and last but not least a very special thanks to her BEST FRIEND Connie (Beullah) Smith.
