Mrs. Dorothy Ruth Sellers

Dorothy Sellers (Pokey) was born on October 26, 1943 to the late Lucille Springfield and Pastor Denver Reed, Sr. in Jackson, Tennessee. Dorothy was a graduate of Rufus King High School. She continued her education at Milwaukee Area Technical College pursuing an Associate's Degree in Business. Dorothy accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She was always willing to serve God; whatever her hands could find to do to build God's Kingdom. In 1990 she started her own group home caring for developmentally delayed women. She did this until she retired in 2007. Dorothy loved to cook and baking was her specialty. She would host bake sales for the church. She loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to watch movies. Often she would gather all of her grandchildren together for movie night with popcorn and Kopp's frozen custard. She also enjoyed taking care of the sick. Many times she would take homemade soup or banana cream pie to those who weren't feeling well in the hospital, nursing home or homebound. She devoted her life to helping others in a personable, special way. She was always there for you if you needed someone to talk to. At the end of your talk she would give you a scripture and pray with you. She also loved a good rummage sale. Dorothy entered eternal life on Friday June 12, 2015 surrounded by her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucille Springfield and Pastor Denver Reed, Sr; a sister, Bobbi Jean Lamar, one brother, Willie Reed and godmother Huella Lamar. She leaves to cherish her memory three children; Anthony Weathers (Tanganyika), Princeton Weathers (Terri), and Tamara Ross (David Sr.); six sisters and brothers; Mary Ann Thomas (Willie), of Memphis, Tennessee, Jane Wallace (Sam), Doveanna Monger, (Robert), Savannah Reed, Jason Reed (Monica) all ofSt. Louis, MO; Denver Reed, Jr. (Sandra) of Knoxville, Tennessee, brother-in-law Harold Bashir, godbrother Michael Lamar of Milwaukee, WI.; six goddaughters, Sharita Saffold, Malita Ashley, Lacheryl Elis, Marion Sellers, Melanie Sellers, Monica Sellers; twenty grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends and loved ones.
