Mr. Eddie Mathis

Eddie Mathis was born September 11, 1936, to the union of Newt Mathis and Christine (Glover) Mathis in Oxford M5. Eddie was the youngest of five siblings. Eddie 5 mother passed away when he was 12 years old Eddie was then reared by his eldest sister, Mildred (Mathis) Hendree. He accepted Christ as his personal savior as a young man and began a lifetime serving Cod sharing Cod's love through his knowledge, deeds, and compassion he consistently showed to others. Eddie received his formal education in Batesville, MS and finished his education in Milwaukee, WI at Milwaukee Area Technical College. In 1952, Eddie joined the US Army and was stationed in Memphis, TN He participated in the Korean Conflict earning the rank of Private First Class. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and he reunited with his family in Milwaukee, WI. He began his professional career as a salesman and began working at Ernie Von Schledorn selling cars. During his time at Ernie Von Schledorn he met many people and became a well-known figure in the greater Milwaukee area. He supplemented his income through his second passion, playing poo/. Eddie was known throughout the US for his skills with the cue stick. playing against legendary pool professionals like Minnesota Fats. He won numerous trophies for his skills at billiards; several times he earned the title as the "best billiard player" at several Milwaukee sport show events. Eddie has the pleasure of meeting the love of his life, Emma j Pinion, in 1960. They married in 1972 and four children were blessed to their union: Darryl Linda, Michael and Scott. Eddie was a true definition of what family man should portray through the respect love, and kindness he consistently demonstrated to his wife. His beliefs of honesty, gentleness, caring, love, and humbleness permeated through all he encountered He always greeted you with a smile and if you were special lady in his life, a kiss on the cheek. Eddie retired from Ernie Von Schledorn in 2008 when he began to show signs of dementia. After struggling with the debilitating effects of dementia and a stroke for 12 years, he departed this life Friday, January 17, 2020, leaving his wife of 48 years and companion of 61 years, Emma, to cherish his memory He was preceded in death by his parents Newt and Christine Mathis; siblings Edward Quincy (EQ), Mildred Frank. Estelle, and Robert; and two sons, Darryl and Scott. He has 2 surviving children Michael and Linda and six children from a previous marriage; seven grandchildren from his union with Emma: Christopher, Kimberly, Renee, Linda, Michael Scott and Vanessa; two surviving elder cousins from the Clover family: Thelma Carver and Johnnie Cathy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
