Ms. Evelyn Bobbie Patterson

EVELYN BOBBIE PATTERSON was born on December 16, 1935, to the union of Marguerite Furge and Earl Merryweather, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She received her formal education at Lloyd Elementary School, Roosevelt Middle School, and North Division High School. She earned an Associate Degree in Social Work from Milwaukee Area Technical College and a Bachelor Degree in Social Work from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. At age 70, Evelyn completed CBRF training and opened a community based residential facility called Terrance's Home of Eternal Light, in honor of her late son, Terrance Patterson. Evelyn accepted Christ, at an early age, and was a member of All Saints Catholic Church. Evelyn Allison was united in holy matrimony with Walter Patterson Sr. on January 24, 1953. Their union was blessed with eight children. Evelyn worked as a social worker for the state's Aide For Dependent Children program, for many years. She, also, worked for the Social Security Administration, until retirement in 1998, after 25 years of service. Evelyn loved to cook, to decorate, to shop, to travel, to watch good movies, and to play "bid wiz" with friends and solitaire on her computer. She loved to nurture and minister to people, who were around her. Family dinners were special occasions to Evelyn. Evelyn loved to help others. She belonged several organization that allowed her to fulfill this passion such as the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary, 100 Black Women Association, the Nursing Board and Prison Ministry at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Evelyn Patterson departed this life on August 5, 2016. She was preceded in death by her: mother, Marguerite Furge; father, Earl Merryweather; husband, Walter Patterson Sr.; son, Terrance Patterson; brother, Oliver Furge Jr.; and sister, Caroline Mealy. She leaves to cherish her memory her: best friend, Oscar Crymes; three daughters: Marilyn (Kenneth) Surratt, Warnetta (Parnell) Hyman, and Carol Cosey; four sons: Walter (Lynn) Patterson Jr., James (Phyllis) Patterson, Earl Patterson and Darryl Patterson; eleven grandchildren: Tiffany (Travis) Golden, Kenneth (Keisha) Surratt Jr., Lanetta (Andrae) Virgil, Jacqueline (Toby) Garrett, Clifton Armstrong, Delesha Patterson, Walter (Candace) Patterson III, James Patterson Jr., Kina Albritton, Loreal Patterson, and Brandon Patterson; three sisters: Bertha McFarland, Agnes (Reggie) Wallace, and Olivette (Ricky) Nelson; goddaughter, Nicole Gosia; godson, Robert Lee Tucker Jr.; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
