Mrs. Evelyn Snowden

Mrs. Evelyn (McCullough) Snowden was born on October 16, 1956, the first daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Kathleen McCullough in Winnsboro, South Carolina. She was baptized into the family of believers in 1969 by Pastor Reginald Moore at Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Evelyn and her family moved around for many years as a military family and settled in Madison, WI where she attended Hawthorne Elementary School. The family later moved to Milwaukee, WI where she attended St. Michael's grade school and then West Division High school. Evelyn was always an astute student, which allowed her to graduate from high school in 3 years. She immediately began to pursue her educational goals by attending Oshkosh University in Oshkosh Wisconsin, graduating with honors in 1978 with a Bachelors' degree in social work. Following college, Evelyn worked for a short time in the Milwaukee Public School system and at a group home for troubled girls. Evelyn eventually accepted a position at the Rexnord Corporation in Milwaukee where she worked for many years until her job transferred her to Dallas, Texas and some years later to Atlanta, Georgia. While living in Atlanta, Evelyn was introduced to and fell in love with her soul mate, Michael Snowden. Evelyn moved back to Milwaukee to be with Michael and they were married on September 1, 1990. To that union, two beautiful children were born, Shanelle Tranae, and Michael Wesley. Upon her return to Milwaukee, Evelyn was able to maintain her employment with the Rexnord Corporation, but her love oflearning and her desire to help people in need or otherwise, inspired her to return to school. She obtained a Master's degree in Healthcare Administration in May 1996 from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, WI. Shortly after, Evelyn was employed by the State of WI as a Diabetes Educator and later as a Tobacco Control Consultant. Evelyn enjoyed her work and was always described as a person who lived simply, loved generously, cared deeply, spoke kindly, and left the rest to God! Evelyn's love for the Lord and her Christian walk was extremely important to her. She was very active in her church, the Tabernacle Community Baptist Church, where she served as a Deaconess and worked tirelessly with the youth in the angel choir and tutoring. She also received tremendous joy coordinating the back-to-school drive for kids. She especially loved her family and loved to have family gatherings where she would get so much pleasure out of catering to everyone. Evelyn was loved and will be remembered by many for her demonstration of love and kindness to all she encountered. Evelyn was proceeded in death by her parents; and leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and dedicated husband, Michael; children, Shanell (Davonte) and Michael; step-daughter, Shauna from Orange County, California; grandchildren, Makhai, Makayla and Alec; brothers and sisters, Anthony (Arlene), Robert, Cathy and Phyllis (Charles) all of Milwaukee, WI; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
