Mr. Floyd E. Bowie, Jr.

Floyd and Archieouis Dotson Bowie welcomed their only baby boy into their lives on August 17, 1947. Floyd Elwood and his family lived in the Klondike Community in Memphis, Tennessee, coo enjoyed the nurturing neighborhood environment. During his early childhood veers he suffered from rheumatic fever and was unable to walk. He recovered from his: 'less and enjoyed his childhood years. Floyd Elwood attended Memphis City Schools and was a proud 1965 graduate of Manassas High School. After graduation, he enrolled at the University of Memphis. Although he endured many injustices and prejudices, he persevered and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering. Due to the limited employment prospects in engineering, he worked briefly as a teacher in the Memphis City Schools. Searching for better employment opportunities, he moved to Milwaukee Wisconsin, and started his career at the United Parcel Service, Inc. He started as a driver but quickly advanced his career as a supervisor and manager. After 30 years, he retired from the United Parcel Service in Elm Grove, Wisconsin. Floyd Elwood married Mary Joice Hull on July 7, 1973, of Abraham Chapel Church, their historic family church in McCool. Mississippi. Their union was blessed with three sons: Floyd Dustin III. Patrick D., and Alex D. Together. Floyd Elwood and Mary Joice built a nurturing home. They were godparents of Michael White Jr. and Brittany White. Warmly welcoming family and friends to share in their many blessings. For many years, the family faithfully attended and supported St. Peter Immonuel Lutheran Church. Recently, Floyd and Mary Joice celebrated 52 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Floyd Elwood was actively involved in several organizations, including the Linksmen Golf Club and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Milwaukee Chapter. He enjoyed a wide range of interactive and enriching activities, such as traveling, attending family reunions and gatherings, reading, fishing, golfing, and attending car shows. Floyd especially Cherished time spent along beach waterfronts, taking in peaceful sunsets. One of his most memorable experiences was a European tour, which he enjoyed with his wife and close friends. Beyond his personal interests, Floyd Elwood was an excellent mentor to at-risk youth boys at their family owned The Achievement Center Group Home. He devoted his time, guidance, and encouragement to positively impact their lives. He will be lovingly remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, friends, and community. Floyd Elwood Bowie, Jr. peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at his bedside. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Archieous Bowie . His love will live on in the hearts of his devoted wife, Mary J. Bowie, sons, Floyd Dustin Bowie III, Patrick D. Bowie, Alex (Latisa) D. Bowie; grandchildren, Jaelin, Amari, Akeem, Novenah, Isreal. Alex Jr. and Aden of Milwaukee, WI; sister Gwendolyn Bowie Herndon-Ewing of Memphis, TN; hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Today, we celebrate the life of Floyd Elwood Bowie, Jr., who lived a long, full. fruitful, and faithful life. From childhood, his faith was deeply rooted in God's promises, and one of his favorite Bible verses reflected that hope and assurance "In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself." - JOHN 14:2-3
