Mrs. Genevieve Marie Johnson

Genevieve Marie Johnson was born on January 30, 1925 to the union of Walter and Emma Veal-Derosin in New Roads, LA. She received her formal education in New Roads, LA. She received Christ as a young girl and was united with St. Augustine Catholic Church in New Roads, LA. She migrated to Milwaukee, WI with her husband, Warren and 4 small children in the early 50's. Her final home church was St. Ann's Catholic Church, where she was a Mother of the Church. It was important to her that each of her children were baptized, attended Saturday Catechism and made their Holy Communion. She was also instrumental in several of her grandchildren obtaining private education through the Catholic Church. Genevieve M. Derosin was united in holy matrimony with Warren Anthony Johnson on December 6, 1943 in New Roads, LA, who at the time was serving in the Army during the Korean War. Their union was blessed with 7 children. Genevieve was a devoted wife and mother that kept and exceptionally clean home and was an excellent cook. She was up at the break of dawn to make sure that her children were served a warm meal in bed to get the day started. In her leisure time, she read her prayer book daily and said her rosary religiously. She was a big fan of, Love Boat, Elvis Presley and loved Hells Angels motor cycle movies. She also enjoyed relaxing with a nice strong Coca Cola. Listen for the rocks shaking and belching next. On the rare occasion when she went out, she enjoyed doing the Polka. It was always a pleasure to see her get dolled up in her Hay Days with her Page Boy hair-do, ruby red lipstick and matching polish. She could wear the hell out of pencil skirt, silk stockings and a pair of spike heels. If you ever want to see a room clear, let her get in behind you with one of them wet sloppy kisses, she was so famous for giving out. The great- grandchildren don't know that she despised being called Granny. If you wanted to get on her last nerve, just call her Granny. She rarely loss her temper or cuss, but if you call her Granny, you were likely to get cursed out in a combination of English and Creole that would make you want to crawl under a rock. Genevieve suffered over the last few years with the loss of mobility, loss of appetite and all that goes along with the aging process, culminating with her going home to be with the Lord, after serving on this earth for 89 years. She departed this life on December 12, 2014 at Milwaukee Estate Living and Care Center under the addition watchful eyes of Seasons Hospice for the last two months of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Emma Derosin, her son, Anthony Johnson, two grandsons, Michael Johnson and Stephen Trice, as well as three sisters, Latonya Derosin at birth, Anna Gaines, Joyce Harleaux-Jeanpierre and two brothers, Walter Derosin, Jr. and Joseph Derosin. She leaves to cherish her memory 6 children Dianne Banks, Larry Johnson, Anna Johnson and Edith Johnson, all of Milwaukee, WI, Henry (Melva) Johnson of Covington, Georgia, Frank Johnson of Houston, TX and one brother, Wilfred Derosin of New Roads, LA, 21 grandchildren, 24 great- grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family of the Derosin and Veal clan.
