Mrs. Gloria Lee Harris

Gloria Lee Harris was born on March 18, 1927 to the union of Lucille Crawley and John Wesley Lee in Newark, NJ. Gloria received her formal education in Newark, NJ. She also went to School of Nursing and received a degree. She followed her mother to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1949 and this has been her home ever since. Gloria accepted her Lord and Savior in the early 1950s and was a member of the Community Baptist Church where she served as a nurse. She donated breakfast food and helped feed the children during the Breakfast Program. Sister Gloria Harris was actively involved in community stewardship. In 1992, Sister Harris became a loyal and faithful member of Harmony Chapter #3, State of Wisconsin, Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation and also served as Worthy Matron. She worked continuously and untiring until her health began to fail. But that did not stop her. Sister Harris made telephone calls to members of her beloved Chapter on a monthly basis, informing them of upcoming events and meetings. Sister Harris will be greatly missed. Her legacy will continue in our organizations. Sister Harris was also an instructor to the Milwaukee Starlighters Youth Fraternity, teaching young girls and boys to become respectable and productive citizens in their community. She was a member of the Prince Hall Grand Guild/Beatrice McClain; a member of Zembo Court # 130, Daughter of Isis, Oasis of Milwaukee, Desert of Wisconsin; and the Milwaukee Assembly #28 Golden Circle. She exemplified the scripture Ecclesiastes 9:10, which states in part, "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might, for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave ... " Gloria married Monroe C. Foy, Sr. and their union was blessed with one child, Monroe C. Foy, Jr. She also had unions with Russell Spencer, Leonard Edwards, and lastly George Harris of Detroit, Ml which preceded her in death. Gloria was employed by the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex and retired after 29 years. In her leisure time she enjoyed traveling, sewing, crocheting, gardening, and driving her 1965 Ford Converrible Thunderbird she named Jezebel. Gloria was a dog lover and over her years cared for several canines she treated as her children. She was acrive and very generous to the community, she donated her time, love, and support to several charities and organizations all over the world. Gloria Lee Harris departed this life on May 13, 2013 she was preceded in death by her parents, Lucille Crawley and John Wesley Lee, her brothers, John W. Lee, Jr. and Frederick Lee, and son, Monroe C. Foy, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory: a sister, Mary Violet Black (Aunt Vi), a daughter-in-law, Rosemary Foy, seven grandchildren, T ajuana M. Johnson, Theresa E. Frame (Anthony), Juanita K. Foy, Monroe C. Foy, Ill, Grant L Foy (T ormekia), Mary L Curry (Shamorl), and Tracey R. Foy; fourteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
