Mr. Henry Smith

Henry Smith was born on March 16th, 1929 to James and Winnie (Tate) Smith In Hurtsboro, Alabama. Henry was part of a large family of seven brothers and three sisters. The family worked together to thrive and survive during the Great Depression that the country endured from 1929 to 1939. Henry was educated in the public school system of Rus- sell county in Alabama. Seeking to make a way for himself in the world. Henry enlisted in 1952 and served a tour of duty in the Korean war. He was honorably dis- charged in 1954 and traveled to Columbus, Georgia where he met his wife Mamie Ruth Williams. Henry and Mamie were married in Septem- ber of 1955. Moving to Milwaukee, WI their 38 year union produced six children. Mamie proceeded Henry in death in after a long illness in 1993. Henry accepted Christ as his savior at the age of 26 and joined St. Matthews CME Church where he served as a dutiful Usher board mem- ber for over sixty years. Henry was a hardworking man dedicated to the support of his family. He was employed as a welder for Rexnord Chainbelt until his retirement after 37 years. As a retiree and widower, Henry liked to fish and keep fit. He was one of the Capitol Court walkers who walked the inside of the mall as part of a fitness routine. Henry met fellow walker Elois Reed who became his second wife in a union that lasted over 15 years until his death. The two were known for hosting family get-togethers at their home. Another of Henry's pastimes was to spend time with his favorite nephew Ernest Spencer Henry Smith departed this life on May 23rd, 2017. He was preceded in death by: his parents James and Minnie Smith, Sisters Hattie Vaughn, Ida Richardson and Maggie Smith, Brothers Kirk, Charlie, Dan, Willie, Ben, Luscious and James Smith. His first wife Mamie Ruth Smith and a daughter Carolyn Smith He leaves to cherish his memory: His wife, Elois (Reed) Smith, Sons, Henry Jr. and Willie Smith, Step sons Mario (Mary) and Zidon (Cynthia), Shay (Adita) Reed. Daughters Lori Ann, Lisa Smith, and Pamela CKelvin)Hadnot, Grandchildren Tremaine, Ayla, Chelsea, and Micheala Smith, Kennon and Tyra Hadnot. Dylan Reed. Great grand- children, Renalya and Kalaya Smith, Makiah McKweon and Christopher Hadnot and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
