Ms. Hezzie B. Young

Hezzie B. Young was born on January 29, 1932 to the union of Ben and Cloria Jordan in Sandy Hook, Mississippi. She accepted Christ and was baptized at the age of 15 at Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church in Sandy Hook, Mississippi under the leadership of her uncle, Reverend Alton Owens. In 1968, she united with Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She served faithfully for almost 50 years. Sister Young served as Jr. Mission President at Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church. She served as a Deaconess and a member of the Missionary Board at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. On September 22, 1951 Hezzie B. was united in marriage with Joseph Young. To this union, 7 children were born. Hezzie B. and her husband Joseph celebrated 50 years of marriage before he passed away. Joseph was truly the love of Hezzie's life. Hezzie B. received her formal education at Friendship High School in Mississippi. She achieved many other accomplishments through wide variety of life experiences. Hezzie B. was a very hard worker. She was an excellent homemaker and cook. Her home was always tidy, clean and well decorated. She always had home cooked meals ready for her family and anyone who would stop by. She was well known for her sweet potato pies and her tea cakes. She was an in-home daycare provider for several of her grandchildren and many other children who to this day affectionately call her Granny. She also worked in food service and as a personal assistant to the elderly. Sister Hezzie B. Young departed this life on August 7, 2019. She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Cloria and Ben Jordan; three sisters, Mary, Leola, and Della Mae; four brothers, Leesaw, Jessie Lee, James and Kennie, two children, Joann and Michael Young; and one grandson, Derrick St. Julien. She leaves to cherish her memory 5 children, Burnell (Angeli a) Young, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Estella Games) Horton, Ripley, Tennessee, John (Pamalyine) Young, Houston, Texas, Janette Young, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Tracy (David) Smith, Madison, Wisconsin; one sister Altoria Robinson Sandy Hook, Mississippi; 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
