Ms. Irmazene "Irma" Freemon

REFLECTIONS IN THE LIFE OF OUR BELOVED IRMAZENE FREEMON "putting it in the hands of the good Lord" February 16, 1927 in Pickens, Mississippi, a beautiful baby girl was born to the union of Fred and Leola Tate. They named this darling baby Irmazene. Irmazene received her formal education in Memphis, Tennessee and graduated from Manassas High School. Family and friends loved cheering while watching as she pranced down the street with the drum and bugle corps twirling her baton and as a cheerleader during the games. Irmazene accepted Christ at an early age and united with Saint Paul Baptist Church under the guidance of Pastor A.R. Williams who was the brother of the well-known Jasper Williams. After moving to Milwaukee with her family, she immediately united with Friendship Baptist Church and later joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the guidance of Pastor Leroy B. Mixon. She is widely known at Pilgrim Rest as "Mother Freemon". Irmazene was joined in holy matrimony to the late James Marsh (Mr. Marsh deceased in 1973). She later married Theodie Freemon and was a loving devoted wife, and compassionate caregiver during his extended illness for thirty-four years. (Mr. Freemon deceased Feb. 2012). After being employed by j.c. Penny, for thirty-two years she retired; she was also a devoted faithful volunteer for many years, with the "Reach To Recovery Cancer Society". Mother Freemon enjoyed traveling, crocheting, completing word search books, going out for breakfast and to Chinese restaurants, also spending quality time with family and friends. She loved, and reverenced her pastor and his wife which she always included in her daily prayers by calling out their names as well as to All of her children!! She had an Established Timely Daily Prayer and Bible reading time, Starting with the 23 Psalms which NO One Dared interruptI!! Her vocabulary always included: "Thank you for checking on me"; "God Bless You!"; 'We just have to pray for each other", and her special quote, 'lust leave it in the hands of THE GOOD LORD!!" Mother Freemon faithfully served in various ministries at Pilgrim Rest even after her health began to decline. She served with the mission, hospitality, Sunday School, Gospel Chorus, and as President of the Mother's Ministry. She was always ready for service dressed in the traditional white on white attire, and seated in the traditional front seating area! Mother Freemon's true character can be defined in Galatians 5:22 "Fruit of The Spirit" Mother Freemon died peacefully in her home ironically on the 1st Sunday in December 2024 which was "Communion Sunday" Precious memories are forever locked into the hearts of many survivors including her loving daughter, Jacqueline; two devoted sons, Sherman (Linda) and Anthony Marsh, (one son Cornelius preceded her in death); four stepchildren, Aletha, Phyllis, Denise and Gordon Freemon; three sisters, Estella, Betty and Velma, of Jackson Mississippi; one brother, Joseph (Brenda) Tate of Pelahatchie, MS.; Godchildren, Delane Brame, Lee Porch Hale, Rev. Jerry and Hattie Mitchell, Roy and Esther Burt, grandchildren; Iman Marsh, Anthony Marsh II, Armand (Krystal) Pegues, Anton Pegues, Nikia (Romarria) Goudy, Cornelius Marsh jr., Shannon and Kelly Marsh along with a host of other relatives and the Saints at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. Ishanecka and Iahm Marsh preceded her in death. To God Be The Glory For All That He Has Done!!
