Mr. James Harper Sr.

James William Harper II, age 80, returned to his heavenly home on March 3,2019, in Oregon, Wisconsin. He was immersed in the Christian community that would be his lifelong support from an early age. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in life and ultimately gave him peace. James Harper was born on February 6,1939 in Memphis, TN, to parents James William Harper, Sr. and Mary Gertha Cox. He graduated from Wendell Phillips Academy High School in Chicago, Iltlinois. He served in the U.S. Army and retired with full military honors. After retiring from the military, he attended Kennedy-King College in Chicago, Illinois. He worked at Honeywell International, Ine. After many years of dedicated service to Honeywell, he left and started his own businesses; Boonie's Wildlife and Seafood, Inc. and Harper & Associates, home improvement. He was an avid reader and sports fan. He loved to travel and spend time with his family. He was a deeply religious man. From the very beginning, he dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the gospels. His family and friends will always remember him as a reader of the Bible and having discussions on religious topics. He was a family man and was blessed with a large and loving lineage. He married Minnie Lee Paige and to that union was born 10 children. He later married Leanna Ward Harper and that union bore one son. After that union, he married Kim Harper and fathered two additional sons. James is preceded in death by his father, James William Harper, Sr. and his mother Mary Gertha Cox; his siblings, Dr. Jean Bernice Harper-Bilbrew and Mary Elizabeth Pinkston; his former wife Minnie Hayes, Victor Harper (son), Stephanie Harper (daughter) and Ron Harper (son). He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator. James Harper is survived by his sister Dr. Alex Cox-Fuller, his wife, Kim Harper; his children, Ramona (Michael) Johnson, Rhonda (Reginald) Alston, James (Sharon Michelle) Harper III, Vincent Devourd Harper, Darryl (Daphne) Harper (Lashadrain Harper and Krystinna Milton), Deborah (Nick) Taylor, Susan Harper, Zachary Ward Harper, Curtis Carter Harper, DeAnte Rance Harper; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and other loving relatives.
