Mr. James Atlas Pitts

Mr. James Atlas Pitts, better known by family and friends as "J" or "J.A.", was born on January 15, 1942, to his loving parents, James L. and Mae Else Pitts (Watson) in Savannah, Tennessee. He was the youngest of five children born to this union. James confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized as a member of St. John's Baptist Church. James attended Dunbar High School and was a star athlete in basketball. He graduated in 1959. James united in holy matrimony with the love of his life, Gertrude Irene Burns, on August 6, 1960. This union was blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Beverly Irene (Pitts) Hayes. The family relocated to Milwaukee, WI in 1965. James was employed by Falk Corporation, working in the foundry. He was a very dedicated and dependable employee. He was later promoted and given the responsibility of inventory management. James enjoyed life and liked to party with family and friends, although he never missed a day of work. He knew how to save his money for a rainy day and beyond. He retired in 2000 from Falk Corporation after 35 years of service. During his pastime, he enjoyed reading and was well versed on many subjects such as religion, politics, and anything that happened in local or national news. He liked various publications, especially Reader's Digest, People, and Jet magazines. He had a passion for playing pool and keeping his lawn well-manicured. He loved singing around the house, and his family loved his rendition of "Oh, What a Night" by The Dells. His singing will be greatly missed! James Atlas Pitts was called to glory by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at 81 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Mae Else Pitts, and two brothers, Barney Pitts and Robert Lee Pitts of Savannah, TN. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife, Gertrude "Trudy" Irene Pitts; two daughters, Beverly Irene (Larry) Hayes of Milwaukee, WI and Laura Crawley of Smyrna, TN; two sisters, Mary Ruth Griffin of Savannah, TN and Minnie Sims of Milwaukee, WI; one stepsister, Bernice Raullerson of San Diego, CA; one grandson, Austin Alexander Atlas Hayes (Jami); one great granddaughter, Semaj Hayes; and one great grandson, Zyhir Hayes; of Milwaukee, WI. J. A. fought a good fight, he finished the course, he kept the faith, and received his crown of righteousness from our almighty Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Rest in peace!
