Mrs. Jean Alice Johnson

Jean Alice Young Johnson was born on September 19, 1942 in Bells, Tennessee, Shelby County to Thelma Cole and Jack Young of Missouri. She has fond memories of visiting her grandmother, Nan, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. At the age of 6, her mother married Mr. J.C. Crawley and the two families joined together as one and lived in Memphis, Tennessee until 1957. Jean attended the Lester School in Memphis and upon moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin she attended and graduated from the North Division High School. Despite a congenital birth defect in her right arm and leg Jean learned to use a typewriter and excelled in her academic studies. She received an associate degree in Business from the Milwaukee Area Technical College on June 19, 1962. She worked a number of years at Milwaukee Children’s Hospital, at various Nursing Homes and as a Home Health Care Aide. Jean loved caring for children and operated her own-in-home child care service. She enjoyed watching the Temptations movie and listening to Michael Jackson. Jean Married Mr. Edward Lee Johnson. Together they had 4 children: Steven Wayne born, October 1, 1967. Steve is an accomplished musician who married Ms. Lalenunat Jones who brought into the marriage one son, Eric Alexander Lee (“Alex”). Together they have 2 daughters Shaylarece Ariel (“Recee”) and Charne` Alexia. Glen Eric, born August 25, 1969. While ther are many words to describe Glen, the main word is diligent. With his quiet patience, he doesn’t give up when it counts! Glen has no children. Tanya Yvette (“Tan”) born November 17, 1970. Tan has four children: Diamond, Keyante`, Jessica, and Louis Jr. On July 9, 1998 Tan married Louis Stephens. Their two children are Jessica Ann Stephens (“Jessie”), and Louis Lamont Stephens, Jr. (“LJ”). Carla Naurice, born July 24, 1973. The youngest of Jean's children, held a very special place in her mother's heart and cared for her with a compassionate gentle hand. Carla has no children. Jean has two half brothers, Jack and Garland Young, both who lived a and were, raised in California. Jean lived in California with her mother for, a short time as a 'toddler. Although they did not grow up together, Jean has a close relationship with her brother Jack. They love and adore each other. Jean loved to travel, having visited Mexico, California, Texas, Florida, Minnesota, Missouri, New York and Las Vegas.... Just to name a few. Of course, she's been to Memphis, TN many, many times each year looking forward to the Holy Convocation of the Church Of God In Christ. Besides travelling, she also loved to window shop, ride the bus, do word search puzzles, watch DVDs… and eat Little Debbie Cakes. All of her children attended college and are successful in their endeavors, Jean has been noted as an astute Bible Scholar in her own rite. Her knowledge of the scripture has sustained her during her times of trial. Despite of her physical and health challenges she remained committed to her walk with the Lord and was a faithful member of the Bethel Temple COGIC where she has served on the Mother's Board, was a Sunday School teacher, Prayer and Bible Band teacher and did whatever her hands found to do. The main things that her children have learned from her are faith, hope and charity-and the greatest of these is her abundant, charity. Even when she was in the hospital during the Christmas holiday season, she insisted that her daughter Carla shop for her in order to give gifts to her extended family and various Bethel Temple church members, She has never failed to extend help to her family and friends, to offer a kind word or a gentle smile, even a joke ... or a Little Debbie cake! But always, she offered something sweet. If there is anything good born of her children, it has most certainly come through her example to them. Her life epitomize the words of one of her favorite scriptures found in 2 Timothy 2: 21 "if a man therefore purge himself firm these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.” On June 26, 2013 the final chapter of the book of life for this vessel of honor written, Jean fell asleep and awake to behold the glorious face of her savior. Until we meet again in Glory, celebrating the life and legacy of this servant of the Lord are two, sons; Steve (Lalenunat) Johnson, Glen Johnson; two daughters, Tanya (Louis) Stephens and Carla Johnson; two Sisters, JoAnn (Ralph) Hackney, Carolyn Smith; Four Brothers; Vernon (Pam) Crawley, Theodis Crawley, Brian Bennett, Jack Young; One Uncle, Rev. Doris Crawley; six grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephew and other relatives and friends and the Bethel Temple Church Family. Mother Johnson was preceded in death by her parents Mother Thelma Crawley, Pastor John Crawley and Jack Young, Sr.
