Mrs. Jessie Mae Moten

JESSIE MAE (BOOTHE) MOTEN began her earthly journey on November 25, 1940 in Durant, Mississippi. She was the only daughter born to Willie Boothe and Alice Louise (Brown) Boothe. Her life would be blessed with 6 brothers. She received her formal education in the Holmes County, Mississippi school system, Durant, Mississippi. Her love for the Lord started at a very young age under the careful guidance and watchful eyes of her parents. She was baptized and became a member of New Banyon Missionary Baptist Church, Durant, Mississippi. She found great joy and loved working in that church wherever she was needed. In 1960 her life would take a turn when she relocated to Milwaukee, WI. Unknowingly she would meet a man named Horace Moten in Milwaukee who would sweep her off her feet. Their love for one another grew and before the end of 1963 they vowed to become one. They said their I do's to one another in a quiet but beautiful ceremony in Waukegan, Illinois. Over time Jessie's small family of 5 grew. Life was good. She was a strong believer in helping. She obtained a job at a local dry cleaner. Her life continued on an upward swing, and on November 21, 1973 she was offered a job in Support Services at Sinai Samaritan Hospital. Over the next 24 years she would faithfully carry out the work she was assigned to do until her retirement on December 24, 1997. Jessie never forgot the higher calling that God had placed over her life. She answered that call and began to put her gifts, graces. talents and usefulness in evangelistic work. On April 19, 2002, under the presiding Bishop G.E. Patterson of Memphis, Tennessee, shejoyfully received her Evangelist license. It did not stop there. She later received her Certificate of Ordination as Minister of Helps, Good Shepherd Ministries. She had many church affiliations +Faith Temple COGIC, Freeport, IL; Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and New Creation COGIC, Milwaukee, WI She will be best remembered by- her warm smile, her caring ways, her love for family, her delicious dressing that everyone could not wait to eat, her laughter and her hospitality. You could call or stop by to see her 24 hours a day/7 days a week. She was never too busy to lend of her time and talents. She would stop what she was doing to pray for you and pray with you, she'd helped you through a crisis, wipe away your tears, give you hope for a new tomorrow. Whatever your God given need was, she was there. She rarely missed a call. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her jewels. She guided and directed each of them on the path to greatness. She was a proven strong disciplinarian by the whippings Lindsey and the family dog Lobo would receive Everyday. When Jessie began to deal with her own infirmities she never questioned God. She still continued her Evangelistic work after her move to assisted living. She made sure the residents would receive bibles with the big lettering and she tasked her children to buy them for her so she could continue bible study and share God's word. When her children could no longer come out for Sunday visits, Rhonda cooked dinner. Pam dropped off her meals and laundry every Sunday. Ree would look forward to their Sunday afternoon conversations. Jessie would give you anything out of her closet but would later request her children without hesitation to re-buy what she had given away. Rhonda was a Mommy's baby who loved to cook and always called mom to find out the ingredients and recipe secrets to all the meals the family was accustomed to enjoying. When anyone told Pam, 'You and your mom look alike, Pam would immediately say, No .. Mom looks like me! They enjoyed being on the phone together for hours, watching, commenting and laughing at their favorite tv programs. November was a special month for her, looking forward to her birthday, the upcoming holiday season and never missing that birthday phone call to her son J.B. Their birthdays were just 4 days apart. Early on Sunday morning, November 29, 2020, the Lord quietly whispered, 'Well done, good and faithful servant'. You have fought a good fight, You have finished your course, You have kept the faith. Her legacy of love have been left to be carried on by her husband, Horace Moten of 56 years; children Jessie Boothe, Pam Hopkins, Taranda Addison, Lindsey Moten all of Milw, WI and J.B. Ellis (Rosalyn) Canton, OH; 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; 8 step children; 1 brother J.C Brown Freeport, IL; aunt Nina Pearl Robertson, Waterloo, IA; 3 sister-in laws, Ameenah Heard (Tony), Rozetta McGhee and Elnora Reddick, all of Jackson, MI; special cousin Ella Campbell; Godchildren, Connie Thomas and Charlotte Thomas; Best Friend and Prayer Partner Sister Mary Prophet; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many fond friends. Preceding her in death, parents Willie and Alice; brothers, L.C., Willie, Sammie, Travis (June) and Oscar.
