Mr. John H. Lewis

John H. Lewis was born on September 3, 1933, to the union of Girtha (nee Luss) and Euclid Stoval Lewis Sr. in Batesville, Mississippi. John accepted Christ at an early age and was united with Bethlehem Baptist Church. John relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and dedicated his entire adult life to serving his community. John, Euclid Jr.. along with othermembers. played a role in building Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church on 8th and Clarke Street, after it began on 8th and Brown Street. The church later moved to Sherman Boulevard and Roosevelt for many years before finding its current location on 38th and Townsend. John's unwavering commitment and efforts to the church and community will always be appreciated. John had various jobs throughout his life. He started as a crane operator at Grede Foundries for 17 years. He later retired as a manager at American Appraisal. He was also a store owner and worked as an independent contractor in logistics. John was an active community member and was involved in many different roles. Her served as a deacon, choir member, and trustee. He was also a club scout leader for many years. In his leisure, he enjoyed. sports, particularly baseball, bowling, and the Green Bay Packers. John had a great sense of humor and was always quick with a joke and smile. He was fondly referred to by three nicknames, "Shabooty", "Headquarters", and "JH". John Henry was a charismatic person with a gentle soul. He departed this life on December 9,2023, at 4:56 pm. Though saddened by his passing, we find comfort in the memories he left us. He was preceded in death by his: wife, Catherine Lewis; mother of his children, Mae Helen Lewis; parents, Girtha (nee Luss) and Euclid Stoval Lewis Sr.; sisters, Beulah Mae Williams and Eunice (Memphis); brothers, Jesse William Lewis and Euclid Stoval Lewis Jr.; and children, Willie Lewis, Patricia Ann Lewis, and Ruby Curry. He is survived by: beloved daughters, Janice (Herbert) Burrows, Vanessa (Lewis) Wilder, Yvette Galonski, and Yolanda Glover; and sons, Calvin Lewis, Rodney (Sherry) Lewis, Chris Lewis, and Terry (Cynthia) Lewis. Additionally, his special niece, Laurie Williams Kerr, and special cousin, Johnnie Rea of Los Angeles, CA, will always hold his memory dear. John's legacy will also live on through his precious grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless friends who were profoundly impacted by his life. John's loved ones will continue to honor him, despite his passing, and keep his memory alive in their hearts.
