Mrs. Lillian Higgins-Cotton

Lillian Cotton was born on October 9, 1935 in Centerville, Mississippi to J.W. Barnes and Annie B. Anderson. Lillian Cotton received her formal education at McNair Elementary and McNair High hool. Lillian continued her education at the Business Institute of Milwaukee in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, graduating with honors in June of 1954. She immediately began her career in the corporate world following her graduation retiring from J.C. Penny in October of 2000. In 1957, Lillian was united in holy matrimony to George L Higgins Sr. The family united with Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in 1968 under the spiritual guidance and leadership of Reverend Genora Patterson. Lillian became the musician for the church, including Gospel choir and youth choir. With the help of her daughter Loretta, "Lillian" was able to develop one of the best youth choirs in the city of Milwaukee. One of Lillian's greatest accomplishments, with the help of God, was raising her six children as a single mother. On February 20, 1988, Lillian was united in holy matrimony to Robert Cotton, who preceded her in death on September 1, 2006. Lillian quietly and peacefully passed from labor to reward on September 19, 2012. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert L Cotton; mother, Annie B. Jones; step, father, Henry Jones; George L Higgins; and granddaughter, Anada L Higgins. Lillian's memories and everlasting love will be cherished in the hearts of those she left behind. She leaves to cherish her memories and anticipate a glorious reunion: five devoted daughters, Loretta Young, Charlotte (Bobby) Sinclair and Shawn Higgins of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Tonda L Higgins of Indianapolis, Indiana and Regina (Chris) Howard of Belzoni, Mississippi; one son, George L Higgins, Jr. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Dorion A (Tiffany) Higgins, Jershawn A Blockton of Nashville, Tennessee and Tierra Wilkerson Higgins of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; one great-grandson, Dorion A Higgins, Jr., one great-granddaughter, Terriana Taylor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; one brother, Willie M (Mert) Brown; very close and specials friends, Roberta Dabney of Belzoni, Mississippi, Louise Howard of Dallas, Georgia, Dorothy Burress of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Patricia A Jackson of Lithonia, Georgia; and a host relatives.
