Mrs. Loretta Sprewer

Loretta Sprewer was born on November 8,1936 to Willie B. White and Willie Lou Prophet in Milwaukee, Wisconsin: Loretta received her formal education in the Milwaukee Public School System. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Savior. She was a very active member of St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church, serving faithfully in various church organizations until her health began to fail. Loretta always wanted to become a nurse. She was greatly inspired by her aunt and a cousin who were nurses before her. Loretta worked as a staff nurse for many years, serving as a role model for nurses and even enjoyed teaching. Having earned her Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, she accepted a position as a Diabetes Educator and enjoyed teaching patients and their families. After completing her Master's Degree from Cardinal Stritch University, Loretta accepted a position as a nursing instructor at Milwaukee Area Technical College. Loretta was most proud and passionate about the Epsilon Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Loretta was also a member of Phi Delta Kappa Incorporated. She was an active member of the Milwaukee Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association since 1987. Some of her roles were, serving as co-chair of the scholarship dinner, co-chair of the mentor program, board member, and volunteered for community health fairs for the Milwaukee Chapter. Last but not least, she was a volunteer in the community as a mentor to high school students who wanted to pursue a career in health care occupations. Loretta Sprewer departed this life on January 23, 2013. She was preceded in death by father, Willie B. White;. mother, Willie Lou Prophet; paternal grandmother, Sallie Shavers and maternal grandmother, Alice Fultz. Loretta leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Ronald A. Young of Milwaukee, WI and Gregory J. (Jeanette) Sprewer of Chicago, IL; one daughter, Cheryl M. Sprewer-Williams of Milwaukee, WI; seven grandchildren, Sharee (Hector) Godinez ofChicago, lL, Mellonie L. Sprewer, Gregory C. Sprewer of Chicago, IL, Ross M. Williams, Ryan M. Williams, Rhey M. Williams of Phoenix, AZ and Rhett M. Williams of Milwaukee, WI; two great grandchildren, Martin Godinez and McKinzzy Landon-Williams, one brother, Carneal (Audrey) White of Jackson, MS; four sisters, Marion Manning of Boling Brook, lL,Vivian Peet and Barb Lewis of Milwaukee, WI and Delores White of New York, NY; and she is further survlved by a host of nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
