Mrs. Lucy Mae Williams

The blessed life and journey of Lucy Mae Carr began on April 14, 1922. On this day, Lucy was born in Yalobusha County, Mississippi to Charlie Carr and Emma (Crump) Carr. Lucy lost her parents at a very young age. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior as a child. She learned to lean and depend on Him as He guided her through life without a mother. She lived with different relatives until she moved to Memphis, Tennessee to live with her older sisters. Unbeknownst to her, Memphis would be the place where she would meet her great love, Fred Lee Williams, at a ball game. The two would wed in November 1951 at Tabernacle Community Baptist Church. It was not only a union of two people in love with each other, but with the church as well. They were an inseparable couple. Fred and Lucy were the image of love. He fondly called her "Baby" and she "Fred" with two syllables. Lucy continued to blush when she saw her beloved Fred, after 50 years of marriage. They often traveled, dined out and enjoyed attending church activities. Lucy loved her family. Throughout her life, she encouraged and supported so many individuals. Her ability to plan and organize, often led to her planning social events. She had a very pleasant spirit and took pleasure in being an active member of her beloved Tabernacle. She loved to travel to see family and friends and to attend the National Baptist Convention Annual Sessions. She enjoyed gardening and loved to shop. Looking good for her Fred was a priority. Lucy worked as a steamspotter for Spic and Span, Inc. for over forty years; continuing to work part-time after retiring. Mother Lucy joined Tabernacle in 1951, serving faithfully and diligently; in the Senior Choir, attended Sunday School regularly, Mission Society, the precursor to the Dorcas Ministry. In April 2011, Mother Lucy was appointed and received investiture as a "Mother of the Church." Mother Lucy also served as Key Chairwoman for Church Women United-Milwaukee. Lucy's life epitomized love and concern. She possessed a heart of gold. She showed love to so many individuals and poured out kindness. She was a blessing to many family members, church members, friends and "play" children. She gave of herself to so many and the Lord continued to bless her. Mother Lucy's presence and gentle spirit will be missed, however, her imprint and impact has been made on a multitude of individuals. Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; father, Charlie Carr; mother, Emma Crump Roberson Carr; brothers, Clifton Roberson and Charlie Carr, [r.; sisters, Maggie "Sister" Hobson, Pearl Cox, Hazel Blake, Surmaila Marr and Lucille Carr. Her legacy and memory will be cherished by, stepson, Fredrick Bounds; brother-in-law, Harrison Marr; special nieces, Renee Marr Rowland, Vera Marr Hayes and Andrya Hard; special nephews, Gene Morgan, Carl Blake and Dorsey Blake; "adopted" family members Donna Childs, Mildred Green, Chris Dunn and Lawrence Lewis and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends.
