Ms. Martha Whitaker

Martha Whitaker passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Feb. 4, 2023 after a length struggle with Alzheimer's and dementia. Martha was born in 1948 in Mineral City, MS to parents Eli Whitaker and Hattie Mae Sturgis. She accepted Christ at Mt.Paran Pentecostal Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Garmon Harrison. Martha received her general education in Mineral City Mississippi. She went on to obtain a certificate In childcare from MATC in Milwaukee WI. Martha worked as an assembly line leader at Koss Stereophones. She later opened a home based daycare called With-A-Tender Loving Care Child care Center. Martha's children from her marriage to Arthur Nixon bought her much joy. She found pleasure in building a strong family foundation. The love of family was very important to her. Her unwavering devotion to her family allowed her to share her resources with them. She enjoyed sewing and decorating her home. She was inspired to be a designer. She was a multi talented women. Whatever she touched she cultivated it and it would prosper and grow. In 2013, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and early onset dementia. Her worsening symptoms resulted in the decline of her career and eventually her independence. She loved working outdoors planting flowers improving her home. Her gardens were legendary. Martha planted hundreds of trees in her lifetime. One tree resides at her residence in remembrance of her son Latare Nixon. She Instilled them with a love for life and a tolerance for receiving a quality education. The love of family Is what binds us together. Remember when I'm gone hold tight to each other was one of her greatest ecohes in our ears! Martha Whitaker was preceded in death by her beloved parents Eli Whitaker, Hattie Whitaker, Sisters; Thelma Johnson, Bodella Whitaker, Brother; Belafonte Whitaker, Husband Arthur Nixon, Her Beloved sons; Latare Nixon, John Nixon, Niece; Jenny Farris, Nephew; Anton Alexander Jr., Melvin Whitaker Jr., James Whitaker, Brandon Booker, Irvin Hale Jr., In laws; Ozzie Nixon, Fred Booker, Cliff Booker, Hubert Howard, James Howard, and Shirley Booker. Martha Whitaker leaves to cherish her siblings; James (Mary), Roosevelt(Mamie), Melvin (Mary), Joseph (Mary) Larry(Kelly), EIIJah(Kimberly), Eddie, Mary, Betty, Emily. Her loving children Arthur Nixon Jr., Marilyn Nixon, Sharon Legister, eight great grandchildren and a host of family. and friends.
