Mrs. Maxine Ella Harrell

Maxine E. Harrell was born February 27, 1924 to the loving union of Jackson A. Riley and Sally Killion in Des Moines, Iowa. She attended Fourth Street School, 9th Street School and Roosevelt Jr. High. She graduated from North Division High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She furthered her education at Milwaukee Area Technical College and received a degree in a nursing program and was licensed as a Practical Nurse. In 1952, she accepted Christ as her Savior and was united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Milwaukee. Later in life, she attended Cross Lutheran Church. In January of 1950, Maxine E. Riley was united in holy matrimony with Willie Harrell in Milwaukee. They were blessed with five children. She was employed by Milwaukee County Hospital in the emergency department as a triage nurse for nearly 20 years. Maxine enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, cooking, bowling, playing cards, casino trips, knitting and crocheting. One of her passions was making African dolls. She was a faithful member of the Y's Mennettes, The Milwaukee Bowlers Guild, TNBA, WIBC, Black Nurses Association, Craft Club, WSSGC, Cross Adult Center, Pokeno Club, and the Clinton E. Rose Center, The Seven Ladies Club, Women of Craft, Poker and The Labelle Femmes. Maxine Harrell was proceeded in death by her husband, Willie Harrell; daughters, Leslie Grace and Joan Dinsmore; three brothers and four sisters; one grandson, William A. Harrell; a great grandson, Najae Clayton-Harrell, a great granddaughter, Onjanae Clayton-Harrell. She is survived by two daughters, Laurel (Lottie) J. Harrell and Donna K. Harrell; one son, William W. Harrell; five granddaughters, Sherrie Dinsmore, Celeste Dinsmore, Shelly Austin, Delon Price and Jocelyn (Anthony) Whorton; four grandsons, James Scott Dinsmore (Karen), Alexander F. Harrell (Darlene), Patrice (PK) Harrell, Karon Moffett; twenty-one great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren; one sister, Sally Jackson; sister-in-law, Patricia Hunter of Texas; cousins, Deores Carradine Dollie Stephens, George Robinson (Mary) of St. Paul, MN; and special friends, Bessie Neal and Sarah Watkins, and host of nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
