LEGACY OF A GOOD MAN Melvin L. Sanders Sr. The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he dellghteth in his way. Psalms 37:23 On July 13, 1961 the world was blessed with the gift of Melvin L. Sanders Sr, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Virginia Sanders and Marion White. Melvin was a gregarious and outgoing person. His infectious personality impacted everyone who knew him. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. A Christian foundation was laid for Melvin as a child at Morris Temple Church of God in Christ where Bishop W.L. Morris was pastor and his grandfather Elder Henry Terrell was the assistant pastor. Melvin attended 9th Street Elementary School, Roosevelt Middle School, and Madison High School. Melvin was a hardworking man who always excelled in any task at hand. He was employed by Laborers Local 113 for 22 years until his health would no longer allow him to work. Melvin was known for his athletic abilities. He was often sought after for his weight training and karate skills. He was an avid swimmer and basketball player. He enjoyed watching and attending sporting events and going to movies in his free time. Above all personal interest, nothing was more important to Melvin than spending time with his family. He adored his mother and made it his business to ensure that she was always taken care of. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He never fell short of passing on to them the wealth of knowledge that he attained through life. The most significant lesson that Melvin aimed to convey to his family was the importance of developing a relationship with God. After experiencing a miraculous recovery from a life threatening illness, Melvin rededicated his life to Christ at The Life Center Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Micaiah J. Young Sr. Grateful to God for sparing his life and giving him an opportunity to experience a new beginning, Bro. Melvin made a commitment to serve the Lord for the rest of his life. Whether working security at Victory Baptist Church where he was employed or at The Life Center where he was a member, you could always count on Bro. Melvin to be faithfully serving in the kingdom of God. Bro. Melvin served in various capacities at The Life Center, to include member of the security team, pastor's aid, Iron Sharpens Iron Mem's Ministry, Greeter's Ministry, Sunday School and TLC Male Chorus. Bro. Melvin was truly an example of 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Bro. Melvin was a regenerated man who loved God and longed to be in His presence. The evening prior to Bro. Melvin's passing, he was singing praises to God in Male Chorus rehearsal. While the others were practicing for the next men's service at TLC, Bro. Melvin was preparing to join the heavenly host worshipping around the throne of God. On October 21, 2018 Bro. Melvin retired from-earthly labor and claimed his reward in Heaven. Melvin was preceded in death by His brothers Michael R. Sanders, Edward N. Sanders, and Joseph L. Sanders. He leaves to preserve his legacy his mother Virginia "Amazing Grace" Sanders; daughter Shequela Antee' Henderson; son's Melvin Sanders Jr, and Donovan Adams; grandchildren Dominick Deonte' Henderson, and Kaymauri' Adonna Henderson; He was also a father to Marquieta Nash, Aaron Nash and Romero Johnson; Aunt, Wendell (James) Thomas; brother, David Sanders; best friends, Michael Morgan, Lewis Brooks and Vernon Gibson; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and church family.
