Ms. Minnie Bowman

Minnie Mae Bowman was born on September 12, 1939, to the union of Davie and Carrie Price in Jackson, Mississippi. Minnie received her formal education at Moton High School in the Marianna School System in Marianna, Arkansas. Minnie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was united with Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She was later united with Holy Redeemer, Church of God & Christ where she served as a very dedicated and faithful member. On April 6, 1958, Minnie Mae Price was united in holy matrimony with Eddie Morris Bowman in Marianna, AR. Their union was blessed with eight wonderful children. Eddie and Minnie wanted to make a better life for their family, so they left Marianna, AR and they moved to Gary, Indiana. She was employed by Bethlehem Steel Corporation as a Shipping and Receiving Clerk where she was instrumental in the ship building process. In 1969, during the Vietnam War, Minnie was a pioneer and a member of the very first group of ladies of color to work for and be trained by Bethlehem Steel in the ship building industry. Bethlehem Steel was the worlds largest builder of ships and was located in Chesterton, Indiana. In her leisure, she enjoyed reading; Minnie was a very avid reader and instilled the love of reading in her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed non-fiction and read the bible daily. She loved gospel music and frequent visits from family and grandchildren. She also enjoyed shopping and had a green thumb. Her plants were some of the most beautiful works of art. Minnie Mae Bowman departed this life on September 30, 2020 at 9:35 AM. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Morris Bowman, Sr.; and loving sons, Derwin Mitchell, Joseph Perry, David Lewis, and Cary Lynell Bowman. She leaves to cherish her many memories: daughters, Betty Louise (junious) Merriweather, Linda Faye Patton both of Milwaukee, WI, and Diane Denise (Donnie) Lawal of Chicago, IL; son, Eddie Morris Bowman, Jr. of Washington D.C.; special grandson she raised as her own, Otha Lee (Brianna) Bowman and their six lovely children all of Milwaukee, WI; Lakesha (Henry) and their four children, Kendria and her two children, Natasha and her child, Kenyatta (Darryl) and their two children, Aramis and his five children, Akeen (Nakita) and their two children, Larry residing in Frankfurt, Germany, Deandre, Kennedy, Robnesha, Lewis, Christine, Robert, Jr., and Melinda; Minnie's list of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives, and friends which is extensive. She also leaves to cherish her memory Derwin's daughter, Imani that resides in California. Everyone will forever honor, remember, and cherish her many fabulous memories. "MAY YOU REST IN STRENGTH"
