Ms. Muriel Taylor

Muriel was born on September 27, 1933, in Milwaukee, WI. She was the second of five children born to Pearl and Benjamin Franklin. Muriel attended st. Francis Catholic School as well as Milwaukee Public Schools, namely Roosevelt Jr. High and Lloyd Street Schools. She often spoke highly of "PaPa", her grandfather (Richard Weatherall), even recently as she remembered how he used to take walks with her when she was younger. Muriel was the protective one to her siblings as their mother, Pearl, passed away when they were very young. They were then raised by their aunt Rose', who along with PaPa, purchased a house for them on Lloyd Street. That is where they established their roots and grew. Muriel married Tommie Taylor at a young age. Their marriage lasted many years until his death in the late 80's. Together, they worked and owned a bar, Taylor's Inn. Its first location was on Vliet Street, then on the corner of 22nd and Center Street, where it was well known by many and a favorite hangout for some. Muriel bar tended regularly, laughing and talking with the customers. She was known for her outgoing personality and sense of humor. Prior to owning a bar, Muriel also worked at Briggs and Stratton. Muriel started a career working at Daycare Services for Children and Children's Rainbow Learning Center for many years. Muriel also loved animals, having up to 4 dogs at one time. They were pampered and fed very well. Protective to say the least. Patrons of the bar knew not to open the door to the upstairs where Muriel and Taylor resided! Muriel Taylor was a second mother to her sister's children and their children. Anything they needed, wanted, or did not have, she would not hesitate to give. At times she lived with lola and Anita and was incorporated into our daily lives. She would be there and help solve and give her input on whatever good or bad would happen. She would always have something helpful to say, and at times, use her silly sense of humor. She always kept the household full of laughter. There were many pots of homemade beef stew or spaghetti that came through our door from her kitchen. Both she and Taylor were excellent cooks. Their smothered steak melted in your mouth, mac n cheese rich and creamy with a touch of texture you don't normally find, and chili, which she always made huge industrial pots of for New Year's to serve to their customers, was so good! Always having been o loving and nurturing person, she would willingly give to or feed anyone. Muriel enjoyed playing cards, going to the horse and dog tracks, and shopping and being with family and friends. Muriel had a grand social life. She attended matinees, the Kentucky Derby, and was part of a traveling social club. She enjoyed dressing up while attending these events and would purchase her gowns at Craig's, Lou Fritzel's, and some of the other exclusive stores to make her stunning appearance! She never met a stranger and could find out a person's life story within minutes of a conversation! On July 2, 2023, with her nieces by her side, Muriel slipped away from us into the arms of the Lord. She was predeceased by: both grandparents, Richard and Mary (Reneau) Weatherall; mother, Pearl Franklin (1945); father, Benjamin Franklin (1979); and sisters, Anita Kendrick (2017) and lola Allen (2019). She leaves to cherish her memory: special and only brother, Spencer Franklin of Oregon; sister, Theresa Wyatt of CA; and many nieces, great nieces, great-great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins and friends.
