Mrs. Olivia Mae Hurt

Olivia Mae Nichols was born on May 14, 1926, to the parents of Jerry and Merlisa Broadnax Nichols in Moffettville, Alabama. Olivia is the baby girl of 6 children, Belton, James, Earl, Otis and Daisy. Olivia attended Dunbar High School in Mobile, Alabama. Olivia met and married Roma Lee Thompson Sr. and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1950. Olivia was blessed with twelve children from her marriage to Roma. Olivia worked a while, as a nurse assistant for Westside Hospital, Sunrise Nursing Home and Misericordia Hospital. Roma Lee Sr. passed away in December of 1992. Olivia met and married Rev. Walter T. Hurt in March 1988 and later became co-pastor of Hurt Temple Church of God In Christ, in Milwaukee, WI. It was a small family and friends church, where love and prayer was the foundation on which it was built. When you sat down with Mother Hurt, she would tell you that Jesus was he life. She gave her life to Christ in 1952, at the age of 26 and continued to live the life of a devout Christian and a good, humble, virtuous woman. Mother Hurt served under: the Late Pastor Clemons, the late Pastor Felix Lewis, the late Pastor Willie L. Hines Sr., the late Pastor Herbert Lewis and Pastor Otis McCoy. The bible tells us that "your gift will make room for you" and because Mother Hurt had the gift of prayer upon her life, she was appointed State Prayer Warrior. Mother Hurt was a member of Holy Redeemer Institutional COGIC, under the leadership of General Board member, Bishop Sedgwick Daniels, until her demise. Later in her ministry, she was appointed State Prayer Warrior for Southeastern Wisconsin First Jurisdiction COGIC. Mother Hurt would tell you that "Jesus is the answer to all things". One of her favorite scriptures is from Psalm 121: "I will bless the Lord at all times". Mother Hurt was not a complainer and loved the Lord. In 2000, Mother Hurt was nominated by one of her family members to become the 2000 WITI TV 6 Millennium Mom! She and her daughter appeared live and was interviewed on Milwaukee's Channel 6 TV. Mother Olivia Thompson Hurt taught her children to love one another and that love was the most important foundation to build on. She also taught her children to do unto others as you would have them to do unto you. While rearing her children, when they disagreed and were mad with one another,-as children sometimes do-, she would make them hug one another and apologize right then. At the time, it seemed like one of the hardest things to do, but because of it, we are loving and forgiving to one another, to this day. We must remember, no man is perfect and we all make mistakes. She taught that you will reap what you sow, be ready at all times and get saved, because we don't know the hour, day or time when Christ will come back, all spoken about in Bible. Mother Hurt also taught her children that "your word is your bond", in other words, "do what you say you are going to do". Mother Hurt's legacy, which people will remember, is that she helped many people using her gifts. She walked, lived and breathed the life she talked about. Many times in years past, she was not able to give money all the time but the words of encouragement she gave and the prayers she prayed had a powerful impact on the lives she touched . She had faith and believed God could do any and everything. Heaven has been enlarged because of her life and works. For those who knew her, she will be known for the way she read the Bible, under the anointing. She was known for her ability to read the Word of God, as it should be read, and because of this anointing, she was asked by Bishops, Pastors and Prophets to read the Word prior to their preaching. She was and always will be a virtuous woman, sister, and an awesome and loving mom, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother. She never turned her back on anyone and was always there when you need to talk. On Friday morning, November 24, 2017, Mother Olivia Hurt made her transition and we believe God told mother she "fought a good fight, ran a mighty good race and had kept the faith and it was time to receive her crown in Glory". Her work on earth was done. She encouraged until she couldn't anymore, never complaining and accepting what each day brought. Mother Hurt was preceded in death by her: parents, Jerry and Merlisa Nichols; Elder Walter T. Hurt; Roma Thompson Sr.; four brother: Belton, James, Earl and Otis; granddaughter, Serena; grandson, Keaton; and great-grandson, Delonte Jr. Olivia leaves to cherish her precious memories and teachings her: loving children: Janie, Jerry (Vicky), Carlenia, Mildred, Roma Jr., Amos (Michelle), Rocky Hill, Connecticut, Mary (Otha), Covington, GA, Margie, Willie (Lisa), Sheila, Calvert (Oretha) Daleville, Virginia and Subrena (Phil) Orlando, FL; one sister, Daisy Nichols, Mobile, AL; 32 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, Godchildren, prayer warriors, saints and friends. Mother is loved, gone but never forgotten, resting in the arms of Jesus Christ, her personal friend and Savior. To be absent from the body, is to be present with our Lord..... We want to give a special "Thank You" to Bishop Sedgwick Daniels, Prelate, Wisconsin Southeast First and Bishop Darrell Hines, Prelate, Illinois Midwest & to former pastor, Elder Otis McCoy. You were all mom's spiritual sons in the Lord and always family to us.
