Mr. Randolph Lanier

Randolph Lanier was born on February 29, 1928 in Gibson County Tennessee, to the union of Reuben and Cassie M. Bailey Lanier. He was the oldest of their three hildren. Randolph at an early age became a disciple of hrist when he united with his mother's family church, Spring Hill Baptist located in Trenton, TN. Later in his childhood he moved with his family to the City of Jackson where he received his formal education in the local public school system. He completed his post-secondary education at Lane College where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Randy was united in holy matrimony to Lee A. Day on August 17, 1960 and to this union were born two daughters. A career. opportunity within the Milwaukee Public School System presented itself later that same year and they relocated to the City. He joined Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. E.M. Kelly. He served faithfully as a trustee for many years until his health declined. He was a member of the Men's Fellowship, Gospel Choir and worked with the Royal Ambassadors. He also served the church faithfully during the winter months for over 30+ years ensuring that the parking lot, church grounds and walkways remained free of snow and ice. He was a man of many talents and interests. He loved nothing better than counseling, guiding and instructing young people on how to be discerning, decisive and undeterred for any reason in their strides to reach their full potential. His thirty-one years of educational instruction both inside and outside of the classroom have had a significant impact on countless lives. Randy had a lifelong passion for anything related to the outdoors including gardening, hunting and fishing. He was an avid hunter and spent countless hours in the woods of Northern Wisconsin. He'd also say there's nothing more beautiful to see than watching the sun come up over the horizon, or watching a ten point buck enter the clearing and hope that he would be going home with him. In the summer, his interests turned toward the water, whether it was Lake Michigan or smaller bodies of water they provided him the opportunity for good fishing and telling great tales of the one that got away. Although, he came to formal boating late in life, he developed the skills necessary to navigate the waters and took great pleasure in having been able to see one of his life's dreams of owning and sailing a boat come true. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of fifty-five years, Lee A. Lanier; Daughters, Cassandra K. Thompson of Milwaukee, WI and Kathryn A. (Natividad) Leal of Raleigh, NC; Three grandchildren, Casia Leigh Thompson of Washington, DC, Christopher Randolph Thompson of Raleigh, NC and Jordan Alexis Leal of Raleigh, NC. Three siblings, Harvey (Bessie) Marshall of South Holland, IL, Ola Mathis of Humboldt, TN and Clester Blackwell of St. Louis, MO in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, former students and business associates.
