Ms. Retta P. Carter

Retta P. Daniels "Rita" was born on June 28th, 1937 to the union of Emma Lily Grigsby (Daniels) & Richard W. Daniels, in Clinton, MS. Rita received her formal education in Gary, IN. Graduating from Froebel High School. Rita was a Christian and attended church regularly. On Nov. 17, 1973, Retta Daniels & Julius Carter were married in Waukegan II., to this union 1 child was born, Kimberlene l.a'Vante Carter Rita was employed as a Customer Service Representative at Blue Cross/Blue Shield for 29 years where she met and developed a close circle of life long friends. She retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield February 26th, 1998. She then worked part time as a greeter at Big Lot, where at least half the city of Milwaukee met her, you couldn't take her anywhere without someone recognizing her from Big Lot, everyone loved her. She retired from there as well. She and her friends celebrated birthdays together and formed the Birthday Club, which consisted of ... Helen White, Mary Fernandez, Valerie Hoeft, Lorry Smith, Annie Winfrey-Gray, Pam Kleckley, Edna Porter, Pat Patterson, Ella Brown, Newell Jones, Marie Matthews, and Lenny Harmon. In her free time, Rita enjoyed shopping, trying different restaurants, gatherings with family & friends, traveling, watching scary movies & popcorn! "Rita" departed this life on a Thursday morning. May 29th, 2025, her 13 year journey with Dementia ended. She was preceded in death by her Dad- Richard W. Daniels, Mom- Emma Lily Eubanks, Brother-Richard Daniels, Sisters-Louise White & Stella Shelton, Nephew-Richard Daniels III, Best Friend-Edna Mae Rucker, Son-in-Law-Michael M. Stewart, Several members of the Birthday Club, and lastly her husband Julius Carter in October of 2020. She leaves to cherish her memory: 1 Daughter: Kim Carter-Stewart 2 Granddaughters who lovingly call her "Yanni": .Jo'Vanna R. Johnson (Willie Lee), and Shelia L. Stewart 2 Grandsons: Ryan Stewart, and Michael McCree 6 Great-Grandkids: (Jo'Vanna) Jayla Maielle-Aray Carter, Willie Lee Johnson Jr., and Jonah Lei Johnson (Shelia) Niko JoVaughn Thomas, Sheliyah Nikia-Kimmi Thomas, and Giovanni Ryan-Michael Thomas 1 Niece: Angelique Reynolds (Eric) 3 Nephews: Phillip Daniels (Val), Mark Daniels, and John Shelton (Mia) 2 God daughters: Lorraine Smith "Lorry", and Elaine Bridges "Lennie" 1 Special Son-Jeffery Muhammad, her favorite PCW-Alexias Jones, her coffee drinking bonus Grandson-Dominque S. Ward aka "Mr. Coffee", the Daniels family, Swan family, remaining members of the Birthday club, and a host of other family & friends.
