Mrs. Roxie Anna Wooten

After a brief illness and suffering a cardiac arrest, the Angel of Mercy entered Roxie Anna Wooten' s room at St. Joseph's Hospital, Milwaukee, Wisconstn at 3:45 a.m. Saturday morning, March 9, 2013 and quietly welcomed her into the Kingdom of Eternal Rest. Roxie was born February 24,1918 to the union of James and Lucy Benson in Holly Springs, Mississippi. In Marshall County, Holly Springs, Mississippi, she ccompleted her elementary school training and later earned a high school diploma from Baptist Industrial High School. Upon graduating from high school, Roxie embarked and embraced a teaching career which lasted more than a half century, Her career continued as well as her education for many years. Continued education at Rust College while raising a family and teaching earned Roxie a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1959. Her forty-six years teaching career was spent in both Marshall and Tate Counties. Also, additional years of substituting teaching in the Chicago Public Schools and the Milwaukee Public Schools extended her forty-six years of service by another fifteen years. . At an early age, Roxie accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the Chulahoma Missionary Baptist Church. During her tenure at Chulahorna, she held numerous positions in the church. Roxie was active with the church school program, church youth ministries and an active choir member. Her most memorable participation in the church was sponsorlng the Easter Sunday Children's Program. Roxie joined Christ The King Baptist Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin March of 2000 where she served as a faithful choir member. In 1939, Roxie Anna Benson was united in holy matrimony with Robert Wooten in Coldwater, Mississippi. Their union was blessed with five children; James Arthur Wooten (deceased), Calumet City, Illinois; Maxine, Wooten Lawrence of Milwaukee,Wsconsin, Robert (Mary) Wooten Jr. of Byhalia, Mississippi, Delphine (Ervin V.) of Jamaica, West Indies, Wooten Morgan of Naperville, Illinois, and Cleo Wooten of El Paso, Texas. Other than her four children, she is survived by two sisters; Lucille Dunn (age 99) and Mary E. Leverson (age 91) both of Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, thirteen nieces, ine nephews, many great nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
