Mrs. Roylene Gracelia Johnson

Roylene Gracelia Johnson was born September 25, 1936 in Kansas City Kansas to parents, Roy Walter Doniphan and Myrtle Taylor-Doniphan. Roylene was the younger of two daughters born to this union. Roylene and her sister, Sandra K. Beverly, had an inseparable bond throughout their entire lifetimes. In her early years, Roylene was educated in the Kansas City Kansas' public school system where she later graduated from Sumner High School. Roylene accepted Christ at an early age in Kansas City, Kansas while attending a local Church of God in Christ. She later joined Third Street Church of God, in Kansas City Kansas, where she attended, along with her family, serving as church pianist. Roylene went to college at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and later moved to Columbus Ohio where she served as pianist in a local Church of God. During her time in Columbus, Ohio, Roylene furthered her education while attending Ohio State University. It was there, that she met the love of her life, Rev. Sandy L. Johnson, after hearing him preach in Columbus, Ohio. Roylene and Sandy later married in Kansas City Kansas on June 25, 1960. To this union were born three Johnson children. Jennifer (1961), Julia (1963), and Jon (1967). She, alongside her husband, Rev. Johnson, pastored at First Church of God in Cincinnati Ohio, where she served as church musician, until relocating to Milwaukee Wisconsin in the year of 1965 to become the illustrious First lady of Northside Church of God. Sister Roylene and Pastor Johnson served Northside Church of God faithfully for 47 and 1f2 years until her health began to decline and Pastor Johnson's retirement in the year 2013. Sister Roylene received her Master's Degree in Education at the University of Wisconsin and taught as a Milwaukee Public Schools Teacher for 27 and 1/2 years before retiring in 1999. She was an extraordinary elementary school teacher and served faithfully during the years of 1971 through 1999, impacting the lives of many students and faculty. On June 12, 2017, at the blessed age of 80 years, after enduring many chronic health challenges, Sister Roylene peacefully slipped into eternity and went home to be with the lord. She fought a good fight. She finished her course. She kept the faith. Sis. Roylene's love for her family was second to none, except for her love for the lord. She was a beautiful spirit who loved deeply, and sought to encourage and support her family in any way she could. For all those whose lives have been touched by Sister Roylene. she will be fondly remembered for her excellent musicianship as Northside's church pianist; her artistic creativity; her prolific teaching style; and for her profound 'gift of encouragement' to the body of Christ. Roylene Gracelia Johnson is preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. Dr. Sandy L. Johnson; her father Roy Walter Doniphan; her mother, Myrtle Doniphan; her sisters, Sandra K Beverly and Yvonne Burt; her brother Stanley Burt; and her grandson, Aaron Wayne Battle. She leaves to cherish her memory, three children, Jennifer Gayle (Milton) Hines, Julia Grace (Melvin) Saffold, and Jon Stanley Johnson; Her grandchildren. Jasmine Yvonne M.D. (Miguel) Zapata; Her great grandchildren, Miguel Aaron Zapata and Aameira Grace Zapata, along with a host of other loving relatives, close family friends, and numerous family members in the faith.
