Mr. Samuel McDonald Rogers

Samuel McDonald Rogers was born April 18, 1938 in Kittrell North Carolina, to James Rogers C,;J- and Nannie Roundtree. To this union fift-een children were born, Samuel was the fifth child. Samuel received his formal education at Henderson Institute High School in Kittrell, North Carolina. Where he was very athletic in football, baseball and basketball. In 1956, Samuel left North Carolina and moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with his sister Hazel. After two years in Philadelphia, Samuel looked for better job opportunities and moved to Springfield, Massachusetts with his brother Clarence. In Springfield, Samuel worked at Mercy Hospital in the laundry department. After leaving Mercy Hospital, Samuel worked as a Lathe operator at Pratt Whitney Company, where they designed, manufactured and serviced aircraft engines and auxiliary power units. While in Springfield, Massachusetts Samuel's best friend Thomas Hercules Marks, introduced Samuel to : his sister Vera Nell Marks. Samuel married the love of his life on December 27, 1960. Their union was blessed with four children, Derek Van Rogers, Raymonda Rogers, Gabriel LaFaun Rogers and Shaun Demond Rogers. On September 13, 1963, Samuel enlisted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged on September 25th, 1967. Samuel was a proud veteran, who often spoke of his time in the military. In 1966, Samuel and his young family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, within one day in the city, he obtained employment at A. O. Smith. During his time there, Samuel was a forklift driver, a welder and served as a union steward of Local 19806 for Smith Steel Workers. As a union steward, he was an advocate for his co-workers who had grievances on their jobs. Samuel retired in 2001, from Tower Automotive; who had purchased A.O. Smith, with over thirty years of service. Samuel lived a wonderful life and enjoyed all life had to offer. In his younger days, accompanied by his wife Vera and friends, Samuel enjoyed going to numerous taverns around Milwaukee. There they were entertained by the Kings of the Blues, B.B. King, Bobby Blue Bland and Howling Wolf being some of his favorite musicians. In his leisure time, Samuel enjoyed reading, he especially loved reading the newspapers USA today and the Milwaukee JournaL Samuel also loved watching sports with his family, the Olympics, football, baseball and tennis to name a few. Samuel was a quiet man, with a deep booming voice, whose laughter you could recognize anywhere. He was a loving man with a quick wit and great sense of humor. Samuel had a smile that shined in his eyee and lit up the entire room. He was kind, trustworthy and helpful when others were in need. Samuel was a great listener and he gave the best advice. Samuel was a devoted husband of sixty years and a wonderful father and provider for his family. Although our hearts are broken and we will miss Samuel terribly, we found great peace that Samuel is with God, and is now reunited with his beloved wife Vera Nell Marks, his daughter Raymonda Rogers, his sons Derek Van Rogers and Shaun Demond Rogers. Samuel Rogers departed this life on Saturday June 10, 2023 at 11 :45 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents James Rogers and Nannie Roundtree, nine brothers and five sisters.He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Gabriel Lafaun Rogers, two brothers Clarence Rogers of North Carolina and James Rogers of Virginia, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended Rogers and Marks family and friends.
