Mr. Sherman Cross Jr.

Sherman Lasalle Cross Jr. was born on July 9, 1951 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the union of Sherman L. Cross Sr. and Mildred (Brantley) Cross. Sherman received his general education from Milwaukee Public Schools graduating from Riverside High School in 1970. He excelled in track and other various athletic activities. He also attended several courses at M.A.T.C. Sherman was raised in a Christian home and confessed Christ at an early age attending Metropolitan Baptist Church. For many years he attended Churches of the Salvation Army for Sunday School and summer camps. Sherman enlisted into the United States Air Force in 1970 and was Honorably Discharged. He was united in holy matrimony with Cheryl Elaine McCants on July 4, 1990 in St. Thomas, USVI. Though they didn’t have any children together, he took comfort in his two grandchildren, Ariel and Gilbert, his buddies Tyler and Malick and most recently a newborn named Skyler. After working many years at American Motors he went on to pursue a career at Harnischfeger as a crane builder in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for twenty nine years until his retirement in 2006. In his leisure time he enjoyed traveling by land or by sea to various countries such as Mexico, Europe, the French Polynesia, the Caribbean Islands, Hawaii and various other cities within the United States. There was no cruise that he didn’t like! He was a devoted husband, grandfather, son, brother, nephew and friend who was loved and admired by all who knew him. He was always available to assist anyone in their time of need. He also enjoyed yard work, working on cars and all musical jazz festivals in Milwaukee and various other states. He loved and adored his two grandchildren and his puppy Shadow. Surviving family members include his wife, Cheryl Cross of twenty-three years; parents, Sherman and Mildred Cross of Milwaukee, WI; three sisters, Rita Lawrence) Williams, Sheilah (Joseph Prophet) Green, Sherronda Harmon; two brothers, Michael (Delois) Cross and Robin (Jan) Cross, all of Milwaukee, WI; He also leaves in his memory one brother-in-law, Willie Shaw of Detroit, MI and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
