Ms. Shirley Horton

Shirley Ann Horton was born on Wednesday, October 13, 1948, to the union of Arch Horton and Mary Ellen Evans Horton. Shirley was baptized as a Baptist in 1956, by the fate Rev. Lovelace, and accepted Christos her Savior at the age of 8 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She left Mt. Zion and moved to Cross Lutheran Church where she was confirmed as a Lutheran in 1960. She later transferred her membership to Lincoln Park Lutheran Church in 1982. Shirley had two sons. Andrew Rodel Sr. and Tyrone Bernard KUgore. Shirley (Shea to her friends) obtained her formal education within the Milwaukee Public Schoof system. She earned an associate's degree from Milwaukee Area Technical College. She was employed with the federal government for over 36 years. She worked at the VA MedícaI Center {l967- l979} and retired from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (1979--2003}. Shirley belonged to several organizations during her lifetime. She was a ct1arf.er member of the federal! Employees Black History Month Committee and Founder and charter member of Blacks in Government, MIIW~~Chapter. She was a lifetime member of the NAACP and Sfocks ln Government. She was also a member of the Milwaukee Bowling Senate, The National Bowling Association, Wisconsin, Women of Color Network (life member}, Women and Men Supporting Each Other, ABCD Inc., volunteer with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Milwaukee Affiliate, and Milwaukee Relay for Life. She was also an associate member of the Job Corps Alumni Association and The Sisters' Network. Shirley was always busy. She volunteered with Red Cross and was always available for anything to be done tor breast cancer. She loved to travel and her favorite place to go was Barbados in the Caribbean. Shiñey Ann Horton accomplished her deed and deported this life on July 17, 2026: she was told it was time to come home. She was preceded in death by her: parents. Arch Horton and Mory E1fen Evans Horton; 3 brothers, Herbert, Clarence, and Anthony: 3 sisters, Bobby Kahl, Anna Hamiel, and Henrietta Calhoun; God brother Darryl Jones; and special brother-in-law, George Kahl. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory: sons, Andrew Sr., and Tyrone Kilgore; grandchildren. Brandle Chutann Kilgore Hunt, Andrew Rodell Jr., Tyasla Desiray, Pomelo Deonna Gayton, and Justin Leodis Seaberry; great-grandchildren, Andrew Rodell Kilgore Ill, Naveah Kilgore, and Nizier Kilgore; sister, Gwendolyn Denise Horton: brother, Andrew Hosea Horton; special niece, Yvette Thomas; special cousin, Shirley Dorsey, and many other relatives and friends.
