Ms. Shirley Ann Vaughn

Born in Chicago, Illinois on June 23, 1961 to Bertha Lee Thomas and Charles Webster, Shirley Ann (Thomas) Vaughn grew up in a large and loving family with her siblings OdelL Ruby, Jeanetter, Jerry, Charles, Erick, William, Jeanine, Terry, Bertha and Percy. As a child, she could often be found playing Batman and Robin with her siblings, complete with sheets as capes and sound effects galore. Her childhood was full of joy. Shirley attended Mason School, Schiller Upper Grade School and Mary C. Terrell school. She gradu- ated from Roberto Clemente High School and continued her education at Northeastern College and Milwaukee Area Technical College. From an early age Shirely loved caring for others and turned that love into a career in nursing. In addition to working as a caregiver at St. Luke's Hospital and New Perspective Senior Living, Shirley owned and operated Sunshine Transportation. Shirley married Dave Vaughn on April 17, 1987 and became a dedicated and supportive military wife taking her family from Chicago, to Colorado Springs, Colorado and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Shirley was a caring and giving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend who loved to sing and could step with the best of them. She also enjoyed cooking for her family, shopping, hosting and attending family gatherings, traveling to visit her family, giving pep talks to family and friends, talking on the phone and trying new restaurants. Shirley was also rich in financial literacy and would often ask "How much money do you have in your account?" Shirley passed away on July 4, 2023 at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with her family at her side. Shirley is survived by her children Rita Thomas Priester (Hasan Priester), Toyia Vaughn (Josh Wheeler), son-in-love Abudu Nininger, grandchildren Taylor Wheeler, Lincoln Priester, mother Bertha Lee Thomas, siblings Odell Thomas (Diane Thomas), Jeanetter Thomas-Byrd (Marvin Byrd), Jerry Thomas, Charles Thomas, Erick Thomas, William Garrett (Jenise Garrett), Jeanine Brown (Todd Brown), Terry Thomas, Bertha Thomas and Percy Thomas. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and friends that she cherished. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dave Vaughn, daughter LaTasha Vaughn, father Charles Webster, Grandparents Lee Etta Thomas and Andrew Thomas and sister Ruby Thomas. Shirley Ann Vaughn will always be remembered as beautiful, powerful, influential and funny with an infec- tious laugh. She was known for the abundance of love and joy she spread to everyone who knew her.
