Mrs. Susie Mae Stokes

Susie Mae Stokes was born on February 1, 1935, to the union of Floyd McCall and Lucille Hall in Covington, Tennessee. Susie received her formal education at Mount Carmel School in Covington, Tennessee. She accepted Christ, as her Savior at an early age and was united with Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Susie Mae McCall was joined in holy matrimony with Lindberg Stokes on December 2, 1962, in Waukegan, Illinois. Their union was blessed with three children. After the marriage ended and years passed, Susie developed a loving relationship with Clinton Lewis Jr. From that relationship, her youngest daughter was born. She retired from A.O Smith, as an assembly line supervisor. She believed in the power of prayer and found great consolation in praying for her children and others. She opened her heart and home to numerous children and youth over the years and maintained long lasting relationships with brothers: Andrew Coleman and twins, Seao and Theao Johnson. Susie enjoyed the spiritual and religious teachings of Dr. Michael Youseff. She was a staunch Democrat and proudly exercised her right to vote in all elections. She adored former President Barack Obama and was elated to see a black man serve as president during her lifetime. Susie deplored gun and gang violence and adamantly supported gun control. Community safety and neighborhood beautification were quintessential to her. She took great pride in calling her alderman to report problems in her neighborhood and relied on her longtime neighbor, Greg McElwee to help eradicate problems, when they invaded her domain. Susie loved to travel and had a penchant for cruises and visiting Las Vegas, Nevada. She enjoyed gardening, cooking soul food, dancing when the beat enveloped her body, listening to the blues, beautifying her home, drinking her morning coffee, while she read the newspaper in her Easy Chair, getting her nails done, laughing, going to Potawatomi Casino, chatting on Facebook and caring for her beloved dog, Lulu. Susie's favorite restaurants were Red Lobster, Old Country Buffet and The Bungalow. She was a dedicated fan of Family Feud and enjoyed watching Wendy Williams, classic westerns, Undercover Pawn, Atlanta Housewives, Dog the Bounty Hunter, Amos and Andy and the news. It gave Susie great joy to sit outside her home in the Spring and Summer surrounded by her flowers. She enjoyed conversations with everyone that extended a greeting as they walked by. She was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Susie Mae Stokes departed this life on November 11, 2017. She was preceded in death by her: mother, Lucille Hall; father, Floyd McCall; daughter, Elland Elaine McCall; grandmother, Eximiner Hall; grandfather, Eanes Hall Sr.; uncle, Eanes Hall Jr.; aunts, Eunice Harris and Willie Mae Phillips; brother, Halbert Lofton; cousin, Charles Stowers Jr.; ex-husband, Lindberg Stokes; and friend, Clinton Lewis. She leaves to cherish her memory her: son, Myron L. Stokes of Oak Park, IL; daughters: Kim Y. Stokes, Sonjie A. Stokes-Brown (Jessie) and Tyra Stokes, all of Milwaukee, WI; granddaughters, MacKenzie A. Carr and Madysen T. Brown of Milwaukee, WI; sister, Ella B. Young of Covington, TN; brother, Elwin Lofton of Seagoville, TX; cousins, Leon Stowers of Milwaukee, WI and Joseph Phillips; beloved dog of 14 years, Lulu; and a host of other relatives and loving friends.
